Ideas For Writing in A FEW WORDS.

All of us need some ideas. It can be surprisingly simple

When it comes to writing, our idea machinery can suddenly grind to a halt. That is fascinating because when we are not deliberate in our attempts at writing, our thoughts flow freely. When we start being serious, a mental blank appears.

How can we get ideas for writing when we are in a blank?

First thing, have an overarching topic. It could be about food, such as a cup of coffee we drank this morning. It could also be about a snail that caught our eye as we stroll this morning.

Next, we can think about a story that develops our thought process. I use these simple guideposts below.

  • Who
  • What
  • Where
  • When
  • Why
  • How

These are super simple guidelines. The amazing thing is … we were taught these guidelines when we were much younger. We might have forgotten, and it pays writing dividends to recall them and put them into action.

We have to make sure that such bases are covered. It can be done easily when we are writing a reflection piece, an opinion piece, an advisory piece, and so on.

In essence, if we focus on having a person in the story (can be you) sharing an incident (a memory), we would already have the Who/What/Where/When covered.

The “Why” would be a reflection on the event in terms of the trigger, or possibly what we think is the trigger. The “How” is our way ahead upon reflection.

Just remember. Guideposts are a skeleton. Emotions are flesh and blood. Always write with our hearts and pour the emotions into the words and sentences we type (or write).

Keep Things Simple.
