I Like To Think About The Future. Do You?
Specifically, a future of infinite possibilities

Imagining the future is one of my favorite activities. I am not a futurist by any standards, but I do enjoy thinking about the future. It feels good because we can paint a positive and beautiful future in our heads.
Naturally, there needs to be some form of basis to imagine the future. That basis would be the constraints and issues we face today.
So maybe we can start with the 9 am to 5 pm work clock. Today, many of us are dying in the office (or home-office) trying to clear our work pile before we head off for the day.
However, if the work pile increases exponentially and the rate of clearance is a linear narrative — This is a losing game.
Perhaps, we can look to automation of work processes to help streamline the work we do. In the name of efficiency, automation can help to expedite things that have to be done.
From passing around floppy disks to connect computers to connecting ecosystems online — We have done it before, so there is no reason we cannot do it again.
Is data entry frustrating for us? I think so. At least for me. Maybe one day Siri and Alexa will reach a level of maturity where they are type words at our thinking speed. It removes the hassle of data entry, and we can get work recorded faster.
Are we trying to expand our business while keeping costs under control? It is a dichotomy many are trying to resolve.
But that’s possible too. I used to be burdened by administrative work that is taking time away from sales and consulting. So I hired an Executive Assistant to take care of that for me.

As labor costs start increasing, I then turned to overseas Virtual assistants to do the same job at a fraction of the current administrative cost. They helped schedule meetings, schedule calls, and manage conflict of time.
Today with Calendly, that can be done by directly exposing availability to those who seek business communication. Again, this is at a fraction of the operating costs today.
Beyond the 9 am — 5 pm of my business, I also imagine a world of 100% safety compliance. I think of that when I walk past a construction site.
Workplace safety issues are commonplace for construction and working at heights. One day, we will finally come to accept that it is okay for robots to take the gondola to level 30 and clean the exterior of our office windows while we sip coffee in the boardroom.
One day, we might also come to accept that robots programmed to do repetitive deep underground excavation could be used for post-earthquake trauma rescue missions without worrying rescue team members losing their lives while rescuing others.
On that note, how about getting firemen robots to go deep into the forest fire to put them out? I mean, our policemen have used dogs to sniff out drug traffickers. Surely robots can do something for us too.
I know the World I am imagining might be still a distance away. That said, it doesn’t mean it is impossible.
We have always managed to reinvent ourselves to be more creative, more innovative, and more productive than our predecessor generation. There won’t be an exception here.
And … wouldn’t be nice if we can sit back to relax at home know full well that a robot butler could take care of all the household chores for us?
I mean, that’s great … right?
