Who says that elders are “Techno-Saurus Rex”?

I recently commuted by bus to a lunch appointment not far from where I stay. It took five minutes of waiting time before the bus came. When I got up, there were no seats. Being a considerate global citizen, I decided to move all the way in, leaving more room for those boarding within the next few stops.

I docked myself just in front of a pair of elders. It became fairly obvious to me that they are having a great time. Especially the granny. She was laughing herself silly.

As I was looking at her direction, I couldn’t help but imagine her life story. I wonder what life stories she has and how we can benefit from it.

As it turns out, I am staring at one. She was having fun with her smartphone. The visual assault from the screen is one tell-tale sign that she is playing mobile games. And she is enjoying herself so much that it has drawn attention from fellow commuters around her.

No one was annoyed. They looked at her, smiling with love and grace. I did the same too.

She was there performing swiping actions from left to right, from top to bottom. Extremely vigorously too. She couldn’t conceal her excitement slicing falling watermelons (She was playing “Fruit Ninja”), screaming to her partner as she clear stage after stage.

“Aye, this is so FUN!! And I don’t have to clean up the mess! Haha! Watch me, watch me, stupid old man!”

It was SO LOUD that even the bus captain turned back to check what was happening. The conversation didn’t stop there.

Why are you not watching me, STUPID OLD MAN! This is so fun!

I find this granny so endearing. It touched me. And honestly, who says that elders couldn’t be digital natives?

This granny would cut you down in size.

With her smartphone.

Of course, before that, she would have “finished off” her “Stupid Old Man” before actually paying any attention to any one of us. I didn’t know her but I think I am in love with her already.

Cheers To All Tech-Savvy Elders,

Aldric
