How Should We Think About Technology?

Can we be more productive through technology adoption?

Technology is our greatest enabler today. It propels us forward and continues to evolve. It is also now achieving the status of widespread adoption. We can see this in our workplace, at home, and with us. With time, we will grow to accept that the technology we create serves to benefit all humankind.

Before that, maybe we should explore how technology has been our pillar of support in the workplace, at home, and with us today.

A Snapshot Of Today.

Enterprise-wide systems implemented and integrated into the workplace ecosystem are designed for efficiency. Financial applications can generate operation metrics when individuals operating globally continue to submit their numbers through the application.

Performance ratios can be swiftly computed at the headquarters with a push of a button. Imagine the pressure relieved from the respective regional and global consolidation teams.

An on-demand refresh also allows the Chief Financial Officer to obtain current relevant numbers when he/she needs it for emergency management meetings.

Working-from-home has been the norm for 2020. In my opinion, home automation has never important. It is impossible to do our laundry with our hands when we have to work concurrently. Home-based machine automation has taken care of that.

The laundry machine takes care of wash, spin, and dry at the push of a button. That allows us to redeem the time from housework and deploy it to productive work. That, to me, is a marvel and will continue to be one.

Then we have to think about the smart devices we carry with us today. The smartphone — in my opinion — is a lightweight device with heavyweight capabilities.

There are days I can operate without my laptop. There aren’t days where I can operate 24/7 without my smartphone.

It allows me to check my work, consumes information from the internet, and produce content for social media for me to build my personal brand name.

And that is work. Don’t forget that it is also an entertainment cum education portal. I learned a lot on-the-go through plugging into YouTube and various Podcasts channels.

How We Should Think About Technology.

Technology can be a great tool for the modern man. That is, only if we adopt and use it. What is the business case of technology adoption?

I think, for one, it has to tie to time savings. Just how much time can we save when we adopt that form of technology? Specifically, does it allow us to do the same work, the same amount of time in lesser time?

Why do we use social media manager application to manage all our social media accounts? It allows contents to be produced in bulk beforehand and then be scheduled for distribution at designated future timeslots.

When the social media manager pushes content out without us pushing the “post” button, it is effectively doing work on our behalf. That in itself saves a massive amount of time for other purposes.

That means we still post even though we are caught in emergency meetings. That is a brilliant business case.

The next business case that has to be presented is market outreach.

Specifically, what is the business case of producing marketing materials into social media and the digital forms as opposed to traditional over-the-air (television and radio) or Out-Of-Home media platforms?

When we think about digital platforms, we have to think about easy access. Everyone who has a smartphone can consume information over the internet. And I mean everyone on Planet Earth.

Downloading of social media platforms is within seconds, and they do create accounts with FaceBook, Instagram, Linkedin, Tik Tok, Snapchat, Twitter within minutes.

Millions of people are connected via social media platforms and are consuming posts from people and institutions all over the World. Imagine creating a thought-provoking post on Climate Change on social media.

Maybe we can also imagine writing a post about poverty resolution using brilliant content copywriting that captures the attention of millions.

Remember, awareness comes before resolution. With digital platforms, we got market outreach, and we can reach millions of people from all walks of life. Use it to our advantage before it becomes expensive.

A Personal Journey.

I personally embrace the use of technology in my daily life.

I am a fan of massive home automation. In fact, my Robo-vacuum, washing machine, kettle are my time saviors. At the push of one button, I put many minutes back into my life for productive purposes.

That said, they only take care of the actual operational issues today. Meaning, the laundry machine only takes care of the wash, spin, and drying. I still need to take care of the pre-laundry (such as putting the clothes in) and post-laundry (hanging them). Maybe one day the entire value chain can be automated.

I use a social media manager platform to take care of my content management and distribution across various platforms. That means I no longer need to tap onto the individual platforms (FaceBook, Linkedin, Twitter, etc.) to post. It posts on my behalf.

That is important because there are days when I don’t have the time to post or I don’t have the mental capacity to write anything. With the social media manager, I can create my contents in bulks and schedule them for timely distribution like clockwork. It relieves me from day-to-day involvement.

A Reflection on Time.

Just how much time these technology platforms saved me? I don’t know. It is possible to go up to 50% of 168 hours a week.

I cannot imagine having to be on a zoom conference call while battering the wet clothes on a wooden plank and posting content on social media all at once.

With technology adoption and automation in place — We can. And a lot more.

Technology is our modern-day bow and arrows, Aldric
