How Many Links to Other Medium Posts Should You Post at the End of Each Medium Story?

One? Two? Twelve?

Medium writers are hungry — ravenous — for reads, so we often post a link to another post at the end of each thing we post on Medium to try to tempt readers who have enjoyed one of our posts to read another one.

Does this little trick work? You bet it does! Whenever I link to an old Medium post at the bottom of a new one, a certain number of folks invariably follow the link and read it.

I usually post one link at the bottom of each post.

On rare occasions, I’ll post two.

Some Medium writers go overboard with this and post multiple links.

In fact, some writers post so many links that it can seem as if their latest post is just an excuse for them to bombard the reader with links to old work. But this practice can backfire — when readers see that your post is followed by four or five links?

They’re likely to respond by ignoring all five.

The takeaway? (This is a Medium post. I’m required by law to include a takeaway.)

Linking to one or two other posts at the end of your latest Medium Masterpiece is a great idea that will probably lead to a few extra reads for those posts.

But post more than two and you’re more likely to get eyerolls than reads.
