Summary

Roz Warren is a seasoned writer, editor, and retired lawyer who has transitioned from a successful career in law to a fulfilling role at her local public library, prioritizing personal satisfaction over financial gain, and is also a proud grandmother and prolific author with a focus on humor and library-related topics.

Abstract

Roz Warren has established herself as a versatile writer with contributions ranging from the Funny Times to the New York Times and appearances on television shows like the Today Show. As a Writing Coach/Editor for hire, she assists other writers in enhancing their work for publication. Warren has authored two humorous essay collections about library work and edited several humor books, including the "Women's Glib" series. She has also curated a Facebook page dedicated to library humor and contributed to numerous "Chicken Soup for the Soul" collections. Despite the modest earnings from most of her Medium stories, one of her pieces has earned significantly more. Warren made a life-changing decision to leave her law career for a library job, valuing enjoyment over wealth, and was later let go from her library position due to her stance on public interaction during the pandemic. Her role as a grandmother is central to her life, as evidenced by the photo included on the page.

About Me — Roz Warren

What Have I Done with My Life So Far?

I love being Grandma Roz (photo credit: Tom Smith.)

I’ve written for everyone from the Funny Times to the New York Times and have appeared on both the Today Show and Morning Edition.

I’m also a Writing Coach/Editor-for-Hire who works with writers to improve and publish their prose. (Looking to upgrade your work and have fun while you’re doing it? At a reasonable price? Get in touch!)

I’m the author of two collections of humorous essays about library work, Our Bodies, Our Shelves: A Collection of Library Humor and Just Another Day at Your Local Public Library (either of which would make a great gift for your favorite librarian or other bookish person.)

I’m also the editor of the ground-breaking (and now mostly out-of-print) Women’s Glib humor collections, including titles like Men are From Detroit, Women Are From Paris and When Cats Talk Back.

I used to run a profitable small press, Laugh Lines Press, which published humor books and cartoon collections by women. I curate the Library Laughs page on Facebook. And I’ve been in 15 Chicken Soup for the Soul collections.

While most of my Medium stories only bring in around $13.07, occasionally I’ll hit one out of the park. Here’s my best earner ($1,126.85) so far:

Twenty-two years ago, I retired from the practice of law to take a job at my local public library, when I decided that having fun was more important than having money. (I have no regrets.) (Even though my library cut me loose in 2020 because I refused to work with the public during the pandemic.)

But the most important thing in my life? I’m the proud grandmother of Benjamin Maxwell Smith, Meyer Fischer Smith and David Fischer Smith — this piece is illustrated with a photo of me and Benji.
