3 steps to conscious living and going beyond the control and false positivity to live freely, not fearfully.

Feeling out of control feels like a shot in the stomach. The pain, shock, adrenaline rush, and helplessness are similar.

After the incident passes, you again try to claw your way into controlling life. Sighing at the relief, ‘At last, I am in charge again.’

Somewhere deep within, we all know, these ‘sighs’ are short-lived.

But we are fearful of acknowledging it.

Conscious living helps you to acknowledge this seemingly dark, unexpected reality of life and go beyond it.

Ignoring the dark truth of life is not the solution.

The recent rains in my home village have wrecked the place. Multiple homes are destroyed. Many have lost their lives.

My father said, “A person spends their entire life savings building a home. But nobody is sure if he/she would be able to live in it for how many years. Anything can happen at any time. These devastating rains are proof of it.”

Wise words.

Life is unpredictable. This flesh and bone is always vulnerable to any tragedy. And the mind shivers thinking about it.

Nobody wants to think otherwise. Everybody lives in la la land of some forever illusionary happiness.

Many people ignore the dark truth of life. Only a few daredevils admit —

Anything can happen at any time. We can never prepare for it in advance.

But that does not mean living in fear. But you also can’t ignore the unpredictability life brings.

You are not (always) affected by what happens but by how you take it.

Currently, more than 10 billion worlds are roaming on Earth.

How?

Because each individual lives in their own world.

You have the world that you believe in. Your struggles, stories, and pains define how you react and act. Your partner may live in a separate world. Your kids, parents, and friends have a different story.

We all live in our heads.

Your thinking, beliefs, and the way you manage struggles are unique. You live, act, and react according to your understanding. A situation that may be tough for others may be a simple routine for you.

That is why each person has a different world in which they operate.

This means you can change your world if you shift your perception. Right?

Many optimists believe that changing your perception solves many things. Yes, it may do.

But for how long?

You can’t transform your negativity into positivity by some superficial alteration. Because if you do, you are just ignoring your negativity and pushing it down further.

And believe me, it has not helped anyone.

False positivity is more toxic than negativity.

Reason.

When you are negative, you are loud about it. You express it through words, actions, and knee-jerking reactions. You give an outlet to it.

But you brush your negativity under the carpet when you become false positive. You don’t want to recognize the negativity eating you from the inside.

Concealing it with a fake powder of positivity doesn't make it go away.

You suppress and feel more tormented from the inside. Like elephants pulling you from every direction. Instead of being vocal, you go into the abyss of doubt and despair.

So what is the solution?

To go beyond all opinions…

Opinions are mind-made.

Reality is not what you ‘think’ it is. In fact, it is what it is.

Life is happening to us. Life is unfolding through us right now and here.

But you paint it with your judgments and opinions.

“This is good. I don’t like that. If it happened this way, I’d have been ecstatic.”

Our mental commentary is continuously on.

Living in a loop of memories and fear of the future, you forget you live in this present moment.

Instead of enjoying whatever happens, we have become servants of our likes and dislikes.

This creates a significant rift in life when things don’t go according to our plans and preferences.

Both your happiness and sorrows are servants of your preferences. If things go as planned, you are happy. If they don’t, you become agitated.

BUT…

Life is a free-flowing happening. It does not go as per you.

To find permanent peace and joy, you’ve to go beyond your opinions and judgments, the shackles that bind you in chains.

How? By conscious living.

Be mindful of your inclination toward one opinion. It is a short way to becoming conscious.

1. Recognition

Recognize that you are being biased. Sometimes, we think we know enough to make a judgment.

But realizing that you can never know enough gives a space for you to relax and be in a non-judgmental place.

Why something happened? Why it happened to you? How will the future take its shape?

These questions may pester you repeatedly. But the answer may never be cleared.

Recognize that you are doing your best. Give yourself a pat and hug. Be compassionate to you. You’ve gone through enough.

2. Don’t give much importance to your mental chatter.

I know, I know…

Your thoughts are essential and need to be communicated.

My point is not against expression. It is about continuous chatter that goes inside your head.

Most of the thoughts are just entertainment and self-absorbed. Mental chatter is always running in the background, whether you know it or not.

Take it as uncensored gibberish of a child that makes noise and no sense.

Your unresolved minor friction, emotions, unsaid words, and expressions get shoved down. These all make mental chatter.

However, it only becomes prominent when you undergo some terrible situation. During difficult times, emotional vomiting happens.

Don’t give it much importance.

Keeping your trash inside will make you sick internally. Puke your mental garbage in a safe space where no one judges you.

3. Be aware of your thoughts, emotions, and reactions

Most have become robots of flesh and bones.

Your actions, patterns, and habits are automated and sometimes obsessive. There are no thoughtful actions.

It is a significant mistake we all repeatedly make.

Why?

Because it has engrained in our unconscious mind.

We rarely appreciate our bites of meals, our foot on earth, or the breath we take. Most precious things in life are taken for granted without giving much thought.

I understand being conscious 24/7 is not possible.

Insert small exercises of mindfulness into your routine. After every hour, take a mindful walk or breathe consciously.

Returning to our consciousness is the most powerful exercise you can ever do.

It grounds you and gives you a necessary break from continuous thoughts.

If followed daily, your background mental noises will be reduced. Tension, anxiety, and doubts will slowly dissolve. A new conscious life will take place.

Live freely, NOT fearfully.

Life is not what we do with it. It is how we really experience it. If you are living superficially, insecurity seeps in. Living with constant fear drains your energy.

You don’t have to prove yourself. You don’t have to be like others. Define your definition of life.

Allow yourself to be you.

And it can’t happen till your thoughts and the world’s collective madness hypnotize you.

But you can live a fulfilling life when you dive in to realize your authentic nature. Then, the unpredictability of life does not scare you.

Going beyond the so-called normal life means you are jumping inside your reality. Reality that no one wants to see or acknowledge.

But that is the absolute place to live from.

When life takes a sharp turn, superficial things shred apart, but your core will always be there.

Realize it with conscious living. It is the best tool to shed your layers and be one with what already is.
