Getting bigger and bolder again!
Here’s why I ordered the new iMac M3 (2023)
I’ve done it.
I have purchased a new desktop computer for the first time in nearly two decades.

I have been using MacBooks for far over a decade exclusively. I got two Intel MacBook Pros back when Intel CPUs where a thing and switched a more portable MacBook Air M1 two years ago, ditching my 10 year old Retina MacBook Pro.
I still love the portability and versatility of a Laptop. Despite the weight of the og. MacBook Pro I could take my work and play everywhere with me, something a stationary desktop computer wouldn’t allow me to do.
But there was one thing I have always missed and that’s a big display. 15 inches was never enough and switching to the MacBook Air M1 was actually a downgrade, which I didn’t mind, because I could still work, write and even code. You could argua that I could have just bought a big display and you are right, but since the M1 ist sadly getting old and something new and faster should replace it (at least for coding and work).
Instant Buy
Seeing this weeks Scary Fast event where the Apple M3 CPU was presented on the new black MacBook Pro was almost an instant buy and I never expected Apple to put it directly into the iMac skipping a whole generation, but when they anonced the iMac with M3 it was an instant buy.
The M1 is by no means a bad chip and working on my MacBook Air still feels als fast and snappy as always, but having a faster chip would be a welcome change. And combine this with a big display, which is perfect for work in Photoshop or Coding is perect for my current needs.
Additionally, the iMac’s design is truly striking. Its sleek and elegant appearance blends seamlessly with any environment, and, in my view, it even elevates the aesthetics of a room. Some individuals are still surprised to realize that this is an entire computer. I was particularly impressed with the new color options introduced in 2021. The design is a prime example of minimalist perfection (even with those bold colors).
I could provide a more detailed argument with numerous technical specifications to support my decision. However, the truth is, it was primarily a gut feeling that led me to buy a computer after such a lengthy period and reclaim my desk, which had served as nothing more than a storage space for quite some time.
So this is the reason why I skip the MacBook Pro and instead getting the first desktop computer in like 20 years. Btw. it’s going to be a blue one.
