Here’s Some Love For My Transgender Siblings

You are the only you who has ever been

I know that sometimes it’s hard to be you. Sometimes it feels like the whole world is against you. Sometimes maybe you feel like you don’t even know who you are. When you were born, they gave you a name and an identity, but it has never fit you. It is not you.

You are you.

It doesn’t matter what anyone else says. It doesn’t matter what they think. Deep down inside, you know who you are. Maybe you haven’t quite found that place yet, that room where you are hiding inside. Maybe you haven’t found the key to open that door. Maybe you opened the door and everyone attacked you, so you ducked back inside.

Maybe you’re marching on the front lines, waving the banner of pride in defiance of those who won’t accept you. Maybe you’re just living your life, keeping your head down, and hoping no one sees you.

You’re still you.

In your lowest moments, when you hate what you see in the mirror, please remember: you are you, and no one else can ever be you. In a world of billions, for thousands of years, you are the only you who has ever been you. A thousand years may pass from now, but no one else will ever be you.

No matter what anyone says or does, no matter what anyone believes, no matter what, no matter what, no matter what, you are still you.

You are the only you who could ever be you.
