5 Reasons Why Mature Adults Should Play Computer Games
Remarkable benefits of gaming for people over 30 years old

Introduction
Many people in my circles seem to think that computer games are only for kids and young adults. But I have a different view. So my goal is to share these thoughts hoping older adults can also benefit from computer games.
I shared my perspective on the health aspect of gaming in a recent story titled Can Gaming Be Healthy? Gamification in education is a passion for me. Therefore, I write a lot about it.
But even though computer games are fun and engaging, many people still consider them to be simply entertainment — and as we all know from personal experience, sometimes that’s all they’re good for.
In reality, though, computer games can provide so much more than entertainment: They can help you stay smart, creative, and healthy as well as connect with others on a deeper level than any other form of media could ever hope to achieve.
My goal in this post is to encourage adults, especially over 30 years of age, to consider playing video games with their kids, grandkids, friends, relatives, community members, and others on social networks.
1 — Computer games can help mature adults with important tasks.
Playing computer games, even simple ones, can help mature adults stay smart, creative, and connected to the larger world. In fact, gaming provides more than just entertainment; it also offers mental acuity.
Studies indicate that playing video games can improve memory and mental acuity in both young and older adults. This means that when you play a game like Minecraft, Angry Birds, or Bejeweled II (or any other title), you’ll be able to remember things better than if you were doing something else with your time at home.
Another benefit of gaming is social interaction: many people play games together online or via mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets like iPhones or iPads.
If someone isn’t feeling well enough to go out for dinner tonight but still wants some company — or if one person wants another person’s company — gaming offers an alternative way for friends who are geographically separated from each other but still want some face-to-face time together
2 — Gaming can assist with memory and mental acuteness.
Gaming can help you stay mentally sharp. The more time you spend gaming, the better your brain will be able to remember things. As people get older, memories decline.
Playing games is a great way to help build new memories and make old ones last longer. You might even start remembering names and faces like my grandparents.
Gaming is also an excellent tool for learning new skills or improving existing ones. One of my relatives, after the age of 60, who started playing computer games, also started undertaking a degree in information technology. His self-confidence and cognitive abilities significantly improved.
3 — Gaming can provide social interaction.
Online games might be a good way to meet new people, whether you’re looking for new friends or just someone to play with.
Games can be played with people who share similar interests and experiences, but they can also be played by people who have different backgrounds.
For example, many of the most popular games, like Call of Duty, have an international appeal as they cater to all age groups and genders. I made many friends while playing and enlarged my social circles.
By playing these types of games in moderation and understanding what makes them so appealing, you can develop an appreciation for other cultures while still enjoying yourself.
4 — Playing games can provide a pleasant distraction from boredom and isolation.
Games can be a great way to pass the time, especially if you’re bored or lonely. Boredom and isolation are risky for our mental health.
Playing games can also help adults feel more connected to the world.
This is especially important for older adults who may feel isolated from their friends and family due to physical or mental challenges.
Many adults during the Covid pandemic started playing online games.
5 — Playing games can help mature adults stay smart, creative, and connected with others.
Playing games can help adults stay smart, creative, and connected to the larger world. Games are a fun way to learn new things.
Playing online games is a good way to meet new people who share your interests or have something in common with you.
Online games can keep us socially engaged as well if we only have more time. But we must make time for the fun to lower stress and maintain our mental health.
Conclusions
Playing video games can have a positive impact on your mental health, as I explained in a previous story. And as you get older, it’s even more important for you to take advantage of this opportunity.
Playing games can help you focus, organize your thoughts better, and understand the world around you better can make you smarter.
By helping people connect with each other or simply stay entertained while they work on those math problems at school or work on their writing projects at home, gaming has helped many people to stimulate their brains in an effective way again.
