Gratitude for the Creativity of Others

November Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Happiness”

When unexpected discoveries brighten your day.

Daily walks already bring joy to my days — truly. I’ve yet to come back from a walk and feel worse for having gone out for one — but they become even more pleasant when I come across an unexpected discovery.

A few weeks ago, while walking around the village of Shiroka Laka on a cloudy day, I turned onto yet another cobblestoned street, and a smile spread across my face.

It makes me happy when I see the lovely work of someone who spent the time and effort to make something they really didn’t have to. But they did, and it’s now bringing others happiness by brightening their day.

The creative and colorful flower setup in the photo above is one such effort. I know it makes the person who worked on it happy, but they could have achieved the same result by placing this in their yard.

It’s what most Bulgarians do. Each house comes with a fenced yard, and it’s inside the yard (and fence) that people show off their gardening skills.

Whoever designed the flower bed above wanted visitors to their village to enjoy it, too. It sure made me happy — especially on an overcast and gloomy day — and for that, I’m grateful.

Thank you, Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles, for this month’s prompt!
