In some of my past chats, I’ve talked about cool gaming stuff. You can find those linked at the end of this. But today, I’m diving into the newest Geometry Dash update — it’s a total game-changer! It didn’t just revive the game; it totally smashed the old player record.

Geometry Dash originally hit Steam back in December 2014 and just marked its decade-long presence. Normally, hitting such a milestone would be all about reminiscing on the good times with fans and devs. But hold your horses because RobTop Games dropped a bombshell — a mega update nearly seven years after the last one.

For those unaware, Geometry Dash is a popular rhythm-based platformer game known for its challenging levels and vibrant, geometrically themed graphics. Players control a square-shaped character and navigate through various obstacles, spikes, and traps by jumping, flying, or flipping at the right moments to the beat of the music.

So, what’s cookin’ in Update 2.2?

Well, it’s loaded. A spanking new level to jazz up your Geometry Dash experience, a game mode called Swing, a fresh game type named Platformer, a shiny new collectible, a whopping 700 new character icons, and a massive revamp of its level editor.

And guess what? The fans are going bonkers over this. Steam DB spilled the beans — Geometry Dash hit an all-time high with a whopping 88,346 players getting their game on, and at the time of writing, there are 48,817 folks grinding on Geometry Dash.

Diving into the numbers, it seems this game’s been building up steam for a while now. The player count has been on a steady climb since 2020, soaring past 15,000 and 16,000 players in 2021 and 2022, respectively. The highest surge pre-pandemic? Back when the 2.1 update rolled in 2017, roping in an extra 5,351 players eager to check out what was new.

RobTop’s been dangling this update like a carrot in front of our noses for a good couple of years, which explains some of the influx of new players. But what’s causing this sudden surge? Usually, it’s a big-name streamer or YouTuber giving a game the spotlight.

But this time, it’s a mix of the game’s colossal success on mobile (5 million downloads on Google Play Store) and RobTop’s own hype machine. The studio’s got over 2 million followers on Twitter, and the update’s trailer racked up a cool million views on YouTube.

Final Words

The game’s dirt-cheap price tag and the anticipation for the update got a bunch of players champing at the bit.

Want a piece of this Geometry Dash update action yourself? Well, head over to Steam to grab it while it’s still 50% off.
