The Reason I Didn’t Publish a Science and Health Article on Medium Today

Excessive robotic spam posts on the platform hinder discerning readers from discovering valuable stories written by humans. I am now sure about it and don’t want to waste my precious time.

Dear readers, earlier today, one of my volunteer editors, residing in the same country, contacted me via phone and expressed concern. His account got cloned, causing him a lot of worry.

I helped calm him down, contacted my editors to support him, and reached out to the Medium support team via email to sort out the issue with the fake account causing trouble on the platform, as the same issue happened to me last month.

Mike wrote a clear and thoughtful piece sharing his experience with the community and Medium staff. WTF: I Was Cloned on Medium, and I’m Intensely Concerned as a Friend of Medium

Mike authored a compelling story yesterday, providing valuable perspectives. His story validated my observations on the topics pages, which I will explain in the next section. Look, What Medium Algo Is Busy With Serving Millions of Readers on the Topic Pages.

Why was I reluctant to post a story today?

Let me briefly explain why I didn’t publish a story about health and science, which are my main topics, to illuminate my loyal readers on Medium.

Curious about my standing, I examined the five topics where I consistently ranked among the top 5 recommendations, considering my substantial contribution with over 2000 articles hosted on EUPHORIA in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

To my dismay, I discovered my absence from the recommended list in those topics despite my significant contributions to the platform.

Even boosted stories are now receiving minimal views and preventing me from being a recommended writer on the topics pages.

This situation echoes Mike’s recent experience.

When I looked at the latest posts on the science topic, there wasn’t a single genuine science-related post. The space is crowded with spam accounts, making it unlikely that my story will be visible there. So I did not waste my time.

Here are the latest stories on the science topic, followed by 3.9 million readers on Medium.

However, I authored a highly impactful science and health story.

Instead of sharing it on Medium, I opted for NewsBreak, where it got published within ten minutes by their caring editors. They immediately started distributing it to millions of readers in the USA who could benefit from his valuable research-based article.

Despite presenting a similar story on Medium previously, it went unnoticed by the curators or distributors, and it was not boosted and not distributed properly. But I kept writing such impactful stories, remaining optimistic.

If you’re interested in this topic, you can find it through the following link, acknowledging the slim chance of it catching your attention as the algorithm no longer shows my content to my followers and followers of my publications on Medium.

Here is how it is performing already.

It is no longer possible for my stories to find so many readers on Medium. Even BOOSTED stories do not receive so many readers anymore.

Yesterday’s Poor Results Demotivated Me.

Yesterday, I crafted a story adhering to boost guidelines. I submitted it to ILLUMINATION-Curated, a publication that nominates stories for boosts and boasts a substantial following of thousands of readers and writers.

Below are the metrics indicating the views and reads garnered by this research-based health story, which sheds light on issues impacting the lives of millions.

Despite having many subscribers and thousands of followers, the broken distribution system on Medium seemingly prevented this critical information for society from reaching its intended audience.

I trust that caring Medium curators or distribution managers would not censor this critical information for society. I remain optimistic, acknowledging the caring nature of the Medium leadership team towards writers and readers, and I appreciate their ongoing support.

Here is the performance of a recent article that I posted to NewsBreak.

My point is if the same story gets an order of magnitude high view on a platform mainly serving the US, content on Medium serving a global audience can be high. So I assume that excessive spam might be causing this decline.

If you are a frustrated writer like me, there is hope, and you may apply to NewsBreak until the problems are resolved on this wonderful platform. Here is my referral link to get you started.

Final Words

Until Medium addresses the ongoing spam and distribution challenges, I have decided not to share my research content on this platform. Despite my longstanding love and support for Medium, spam and distribution issues persist.

I oversee 12 publications, contributed by 26 thousand writers and 148 volunteer editors donating their valuable time to generate curated content for our loyal readers. Unfortunately, our collective altruistic effort seems to be undervalued. I might be wrong about this. Time will show.

In a recent story, I elaborated on my sentiments and perspectives, openly articulating my current stance and outlining my intentions regarding writing, publishing, and curation goals in 2024 and 2025.

Despite all, I am very grateful that caring Medium curators accepted six nominated stories from ILLUMINATION-Curated today. You may enjoy these exceptional and insightful pieces.
