The next morning, the translucent barrier fades away into nothingness.
You push yourself up from the cold, barren floor.
The sound of heavy footfalls fills the cave. Lorenzo glances at Alaric. “He’s dead.”
You tell the story, words floating through the stillness, foreign voices whispering in the air.
It’s as if you are in a dream, thoughts languid and disconnected. Yet the emotions still linger, like distant echoes from another universe.
Lorenzo’s face twists in anger, jaw clenched and nostrils flared. “You fool.”
Scorching heat radiates through your body. You collapse, hands and knees scraping against the damp earth.
