How I used Jasper Art to make concept art for a company mascot in 10 minutes
5 key tips to improve your AI art generator prompts
I help people learn how to use AI art generators. I do this for clients, but sometimes just to lend a hand pro bono. Recently an interesting one was brought to my attention, and I had to help. They wanted a queen bee chef.
How cute is that idea? Of course my interest was piqued!
Here’s their original (admittedly not-so-great) attempt:
So you can see why they asked The Jasper Whisperer to help out!
Okay, their bees are definitely wonky. There’s no doubt about it. But full marks to the customer for trying, and I get where they are coming from.
See, text-to-image generators are so magical, it’s hard not to treat them like mind-reading genies granting our wishes. We expect them to get it right.
And AI art generators very often do! I’ve gotten amazing images from random prompts when I’m feeling artistically reckless and inspired.
But the thing is, if we don’t communicate a clear concept, we won’t see the specific results we want. In this case, the brief was clear, but the prompt was not.
Designing Mrs. Honey Beesley — how I generate AI Art
With ten minutes of tinkering, I produced this beautiful bee chef:

I could imagine Honey Beesley in branding on a baking website, on a cake mix packaging, or on a label for a honey jar.
Like many cartoon characters side-on, Honey only had a ‘front half’, so I had to splice in her rear wing. Forgive my rushed PhotoShop — this was really just artwork for Proof of Concept. But I think Honey looks sweet.
The business can now take the image to their art department to either recreate (or just touch up the image more in PhotoShop or Illustrator).
Plus, I did this during my coffee break. That’s right, you can make a new iconic character in the time it takes you to eat a donut and drink coffee.
Jasper is the AI software I use. I find it the best AI art generator as it has an easy-to-use interface and an affordable price tag. Also, Jasper AI uses NLP (natural language processing). You don’t have to bother with weighting prompts etc. Just describe it expressively! And because Jasper is NLP based, you can even use Jasper to write Jasper prompts. Cool, right?
What prompts did I use to make it?
Everyone asks AI art engineers to share their prompts. But I’m a firm believer in “Teaching someone to fish”. One prompt solves one problem, once. I’d much rather teach people how to do it on their own without me.
It’s all about the right mindset. Here’s key advice from today’s example:
1. Use precise language. A “toque blanche” is a white chef’s hat. Using this term as well helped refine it.
2. Syntax is important. “a white chef’s hat on” isn’t as good as “wearing a toque blanche”.
3. Define your purpose. What is the image for? I decided it was part of branding, so I asked for a “company mascot”.
4. Description is input! If you’re too general, an AI will try to please you by offering up something nebulous (i.e. images that are neither one thing nor another). This is especially so when you combine concepts and end up with just sort of mashed up “bee+chef” monsters).
5. What do you really want the image to look like? When you picture it, what are YOU drawing on? Give Jasper the same context. For me, I tried out a few things like “Animal Crossing” and “Zootopia” to refine the character’s look.
With a little experimentation, and fine-tuning the prompts as I went, I got a great result in no time. Just make sure to test any changes a few times before you make further adjustments. Thankfully, Jasper Art offers unlimited regenerations at a seriously low monthly price ($20).

There you have it. And remember: just because it’s magic, doesn’t mean it’s easy. But with a little practice and vision, you can create images like mine.
