To help busy boss mums and small biz owners I am publishing a mini-series of 5 hot tips “Content Writing Made Easy”.

As a busy boss mum, and small biz owner, myself I know how hard it is to find time to do ALL THE THINGS! So these quick tips are designed to help you create compelling content that engages and excites your ideal customers, whilst also saving time and effort.

These were originally social media posts but I have recycled them here on Medium.

Top hint: if you don’t repurpose your content what the heck are you doing? It is one of the BEST time and energy saving tools like, EVER!

So here is tip #2 to help you…are you ready?

Keep it simple.

KISS. Keep It Simple, Silly.

Big words, long complicated sentences and big chunks of writing make your content difficult to understand.

And it can actually make you appear less confident.

People might just ask, “what are they compensating for?”

So, keep it simple!

Write for your HUMAN audience, not an algorithm or search engines. If its a word you wouldn’t use in conversation, don’t write it in your content! Simple.

If you can boil it down to one word to describe something, rather then three, DO IT!

Keep it simple, concise and easy to read.

Tools to keep it simple:

If you need help to keep your content simple and easy to understand, try these tools.

  • Use a thesaurus to find a simpler alternative. This is great for short form content like social media posts.
  • Use the Hemingway App for longer forms, like blog posts and Medium stories. This is an amazing tool, and I use it all the time!
  • Grammarly is another amazing tool to simplify your writing.
  • And a personal favourite, read it out loud. Does it sound like you? Or something you would read?
