Choosing Your Own Adventures at The Den

The Fiction Writer’s Den — Interactive Fiction Guide

Image via FreePik

Hello! And welcome to Choose Your Own/Pick Your Own Path stories here at the Fiction Writer’s Den.

These stories are all multi-part and it can be easy to get lost. This page lists the starting story of each main ‘story arc’, together with any other key info such as a map or overview story (for submission guidance, see here).

(Many of these started off in a separate publication, but new submissions should come to The Den!).

The following feature full-length chapters. All incomplete stories or those with gaps or loose ends are open to submissions:

Castle of Shadows (fantasy; complete)

Through the Black Door (dark fantasy/romance; complete)

Hero of Pendown (fantasy/sci-fi; complete with a few loose ends)

Vacation Roulette (contemporary/thriller; incomplete)

The following feature (mainly) brief, 100-word chapters. Again, all incomplete stories or those with gaps or loose ends are open to submissions:

Until Luck Runs Out (horror/humor; complete)

Seek and Avenge (fantasy; complete but for a few loose ends)

A City of Regrets (cyberpunk/dystopian; incomplete and open to submissions)

Boundless Luck (fantasy; incomplete and open to submissions)

Finding the Murderer (mystery; complete)

The following is not a traditional style of CYOA story but rather an interactive game involving a character and dice. It’s rather like a one-plyaer version of D&D! Intrigued? Read on:

Primatria

Are there more? Yes! Further stories have been started but then abandoned by their original authors. I summarise these below.

Okay, but can I write my own…?

We’d love for you to write CYOA chapters and submit them here to The Fiction Writer’s Den.

There are two main options:

  • Jump on board with one of the existing stories. Simply read a story such as City of Regrets, follow the options until you reach a dead end, then write anything you want to continue the narrative! Most of these stories are collaborations, and don’t ‘belong’ to anyone.
  • Start your own. However, to keep things manageable for the editors, we’d like you to run any new multi-part stories or series past us first via email (submissions[at]thefictionwritersden.eu).

Find out more via the author guidance below (which also links back to the main Fiction Writer’s Den submission guide).
