Check Out This Co-Op Survival Game Inspired by Minecraft and Valheim
Former Riot developers showcase their new survival game titled Codename: Islands.

So, in my earlier posts, I’ve chatted about all kinds of survival games, and I’ll throw the links to those at the end of this one.
But right now, let’s get into the juicy stuff — survival games and this awesome new one they call Codename: Islands. It’s gonna be a wild ride.
Why are survival games so popular?
Survival games have taken the gaming world by storm! You know, there’s just something about them that hooks people in and keeps them coming back for more. It’s like an addiction, but a good one.
First off, survival games put us right in the thick of it, like we’re actually living on the edge. They drop us into these wild, untamed worlds where we have to scavenge for resources, build shelters, and fight off all sorts of crazy creatures. It’s like the ultimate test of our wits and skills. And let’s face it, who doesn’t love a good challenge?
I think part of the charm comes from the freedom these games offer. You’re not just following some linear story, you’re making your own destiny. It’s like you’re writing your own adventure.
Each decision you make has consequences, and you have to think fast on your feet. Plus, the thrill of discovering new places and uncovering hidden secrets really gets the adrenaline pumping.
Then, there’s the social aspect. Survival games often let you team up with buddies, and that’s where the real fun starts. Building and surviving together, laughing at each other’s mistakes, and cheering when you finally beat that boss you’ve been struggling with for ages.
It creates this sense of camaraderie, and you feel like you’re part of a tight-knit community. You’re not just playing a game; you’re forging friendships.
Another big draw is the sense of progression. I mean, come on, who doesn’t love leveling up and becoming more assertive? In survival games, you start from scratch, but as you gather resources and learn the ropes, you become a total badass.
It’s like a metaphor for life, you know? No matter how tough things get, with time and effort, you can conquer anything.
The unpredictability of survival games is like a rollercoaster ride. You never know what’s around the corner. Maybe you stumble upon a hidden treasure or run into a massive, fire-breathing dragon! The thrill of the unknown keeps us on our toes and keeps us playing for hours on end.
And let’s not forget the stunning visuals and immersive soundtracks that many of these games boast. They transport us to these breathtaking virtual worlds that we can’t get enough of. It’s like escaping to a different reality, and it’s pure magic.
What is Codename: Islands?
Back in 2020, a few Riot Developers left to start Treehouse Games. These guys have just unveiled their latest project called Codename: Islands, and it’s set to take on giants like Minecraft and Valheim in the co-op survival game realm.
They dropped some sweet pre-alpha images and a teaser trailer, giving us a sneak peek at what they’ve been brewing up.
In this game, you and up to 15 other players will get thrown into a shared world where you can build your own evolving home, explore various islands, fight monsters, craft powerful gear, and awaken your inner island spirit. Sounds epic, right?
According to Michael Chu, the CEO of Treehouse Games and former Riot Games hotshot, they’re all about creating social games that bring friends together without resorting to endless PvP battles. It’s about having a blast and making those lasting bonds.
The team at Treehouse Games wants to push the boundaries of the co-op survival genre. They’ve drawn inspiration from games like Minecraft, Terraria, Raft, and Valheim. Their creative director, Andrea Sepenzis, explains that they’re focusing on putting social co-op first.
In Codename: Islands, everyone can contribute in their own way, whether it’s base-building, gathering, exploring, fighting bosses, or crafting unique gear. Teamwork makes the dream work!
