An Interesting News for Co-Op Action RPG Game
Enshrouded is a new game the developer calls “Valheim meets Zelda.”

In various previous stories, I have spoken about RPG games. These will be linked at the end of this post. In this post, I will speak about RPGs along with the interesting upcoming example called Enshrouded.
What is an RPG?
Role-playing games, commonly known as RPGs, are a type of game in which players take on the roles of characters within a fictional world. RPGs can be played in various formats, including tabletop games, video games, and live-action role-playing games.
Tabletop RPGs are games played with a group of people around a table, usually using pen and paper to record character information and dice to determine outcomes. The most well-known tabletop RPG is Dungeons & Dragons, first published in 1974 and still played today.
In a tabletop RPG, players create characters with specific abilities and characteristics and then work together to solve problems and complete quests within the game’s fictional world. The game’s Dungeon Master (DM) or Game Master (GM) is the game’s narrator, describing the world and its events.
Video game RPGs, on the other hand, are computer games that allow players to interact with a digital world and its characters. These games are often more complex than traditional video games, with branching storylines, complex character customization options, and various side quests and missions.
Some of the most popular video game RPGs include World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy, and Skyrim.
Live-action role-playing games (LARPs) are a type of RPG played in real life, often in a designated area such as a park or a convention center. In a LARP, players physically act out their characters’ actions and interactions, often using foam swords or other props to simulate combat.
These games range from small-scale games played with just a few friends to large-scale events attracting thousands of players.
The main characteristic of RPGs is that players take on the roles of fictional characters within a specific world or setting. These characters have unique abilities, personalities, and backgrounds that the players must use to navigate the game’s challenges.
RPGs also typically involve a degree of improvisation and creativity, as players must often come up with their own solutions to problems within the game.
Another important aspect of RPGs is character progression. As players complete quests and defeat enemies, their characters gain experience points (XP) and level up, allowing them to learn new abilities and become more powerful. This sense of progression and development is a key part of RPG appeal for many players.
RPGs also often feature a strong emphasis on storytelling. RPGs' fictional worlds and characters are often highly detailed and immersive, with rich backstories and complex relationships.
Players are encouraged to create their own stories within these worlds, with the DM or GM serving as a guide to help facilitate their adventures.
RPGs are a unique and exciting form of gaming that allows players to explore fictional worlds and characters in depth. Whether playing at a table, on a computer, or in real life, RPGs offer a sense of immersion and creativity unmatched by other types of games.
What is Enshrouded?
Enshrouded is an upcoming survival action RPG for 1–16 players to release on Steam Early Access later this year. The game’s trailer begins with an adventurer navigating a forested area wearing burlap pants, using a wooden bow to hunt, chopping down trees, and cooking meat over a campfire. This familiar scene sets the stage for what appears to be a traditional survival game.
However, the trailer quickly transitions to showcase more advanced gameplay mechanics, such as fully armored characters wielding magic staves, swords and shields, and throwable explosives. These characters are shown battling creepy monsters, including towering boss types, which presents a level of excitement and intensity that was not initially expected.
What sets Enshrouded apart from other survival games is its traversal options. The game allows players to use a grappling hook to swing through ruins and a leathery wingsuit to glide through the fog. These exciting features add to the immersive experience of the game and offer a sense of freedom and adventure.
Enshrouded also includes base-building and crafting mechanics. The game’s trailer showcases a timelapse of a massive town being built on a mountaintop. The building mechanics offer the freedom to build block-by-block or use premade templates and blueprints. The game’s world is voxel-based, which provides players with creative freedom and an immersive, grown-up look.
The game’s story takes place in a world consumed by a deadly fog that has escaped from deep underground. Players awaken to fight against this fog and explore the world of Embervale. The world is crafted and not procedurally generated, unlike other games like Valheim.
The only safe areas in the world are mountaintops that rise from the shroud-like islands. To explore further into the world, players must descend into the lower regions, where they can only survive for a limited amount of time before resurfacing above the fog. The environment is toxic, and player protection only lasts for so long.
Above the fog on safer ground, players can hunt, gather resources, and build their homes. They can build caves and caverns through the terrain and create tunnels and basements under their settlement.
The game’s NPCs offer an opportunity to learn long-lost crafting recipes, settle down in player homes, and provide additional resources and protection.
The game’s skill system allows players to specialize in different play styles. There are no character classes; players can unlock skills from an open-ended skill tree.
Two skills shown in the trailer are Ambush, which does more damage attacking an unaware creature, and Blink, a teleport-like dodging ability.
Enshrouded appears to be a promising game, offering an immense open world, base-building, and a co-op PvE adventure. The game’s trailer hints at the potential for an immersive and exciting gameplay experience, and the voxel-based world provides creative freedom not seen in other survival games.
Although there is no specific release date yet, Enshrouded’s release on Steam Early Access later this year is highly anticipated.
Final Words & Takeaways
Enshrouded appears to be a promising new survival action RPG for up to 16 players, combining elements from popular games like Valheim and Zelda.
The trailer showcases a range of gameplay features, from survival mechanics to base-building and exploration.
The game’s voxel-based world offers creative freedom similar to Minecraft but with a more immersive and grown-up look.
Players can unlock skills from an open-ended skill tree and specialize in different play styles, without being forced to pick a specific class at the start of the game.
With a crafted world like Breath of the Wild or Skyrim, Enshrouded offers a unique blend of elements that may appeal to various gamers.
The game is expected to enter Steam early access sometime later this year.
