PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE
Back in the Snow Again
Week 37 of the photographic documentary of my daily life
This week has brought us back into winter. A winter we haven’t experienced in over four years since we lived in warmer climates. Despite it being mid-April we got to experience frost, snowfall, and hikes in the snow.
It was a turbulent week. Living in our fairytale village where the temperatures hovered around the freezing point we still force ourselves to go every day on a hike. Despite the cold weather.
We went to visit my parents, hiked in the snow in the alps, and curled back up on the couch under a layer of blankets. We’ve been for too long in the desert and other warm climates, it will take us a while to get used to the cold.

Talking about the cold. Here it is. Snowing in the middle of Germany. In April. But hey, this is April’s weather. Two hours later the sun was shining. And when we got up to go for a walk it started to rain. Or snow? It all feels the same.
Cold and wet.

And the following day the weather looked the same. A mix out of rain, snow, and sunshine. I was looking for the rainbow but couldn’t find it. Instead, I found this stunning sunset as I was bringing the laundry in.

Today we drove down to the alps. Together with my parents, we went on a 7-hour hike in the snowshoes. Exploring winter in the mountains. And afterward, I boarded down the mountain. Because I’m not walking down a mountain. Not in winter at least.
I had to take off the board to cross a river when I saw this ice sculpture. The droplet was still flowing. Over and under the ice. It looked majestic. And somehow fairytale-like too.

Today we went to my parents’ garden plot and I walked around with my camera around the neck. There was so much beauty to capture. Like these raindrops on the leaves of those stunning red tulips.

Exhausted, tired, and broken. But we’re home again. We feel every bone in our body from the big hike we did on Saturday and drove home to our village today. It was raining all day long. Until I opened the door late in the afternoon and got a glimpse of the setting sun.
I guess it’s still April after all.

Misty mornings. I recall writing a piece sometime last year with that title. Today’s weather fitted the description. When I looked out of the window I didn’t see anything. I barely could see our neighbor’s house. That is how low and thick the fog was.

When going for a walk in our village I enjoy the views we get across the valley and the village. But now in springtime, those moments are even more special. With the colors of the blossoms, life starts to wake up in this tiny mountain village.
This has been my week in photographs. 7 days. 7 photographs. Anyone can join. Once of. Or weekly. It doesn’t matter. We welcome anyone! Dennett was the one starting this photography challenge sometime last year and many have participated ever since.
