A Photo a Day

11th — 17th April 2021

My back garden is spread with a carpet of the cheerful celandine. It is regarded as an invasive species. I still like it, though. Might as well be cheerful whilst invading.

Violets grow in the shadowy parts further into the back garden. Apparently, according to legend, a person can only smell sweet violets once, as they steal your sense of smell. Good grief! Is this the precursor of the coronavirus! (kidding)

Buds in the graveyard — we — Doggo and I — go there every week. It’s the only place outside we’ve been for about a year — we visit with old friends; we amble around ranting (to ourselves) about the spelling mistakes we find on gravestones (!!!) and that some people think it’s okay to let their dogs loose. In a graveyard. (!!!)

But mostly we enjoy the peace, and the nature, and the company of silent people.

Doggo got to the parcel before I did — he looks entirely unrepentant. He actually is entirely unrepentant because he knows he was merely doing his job of guarding against intruders into the house. In whatever way it is that they intrude, they need to be dealt with in no uncertain manner.

Drawing/Painting by Susan Alison

I’ve been asked for instructions for drawing and painting. I think I’m going to do it and end up with a book.

The first request is for a dog. So, this is my first go at working out how to do it. It’s an entirely different matter getting it onto a page than it is to standing in front of a class and demonstrating and waffling away about it. When I’ve worked out how I’m going to do it, I’ll put the work-sheets on Medium.

The final picture here is titled: ‘Wot???’

(It is also known as: ‘Savaged cushion stuffing always expands to fill the available space.’)

Tulips in next door’s front garden. They looked so perfect, I couldn’t resist them. (Taking a pic, I mean — I left the flowers right where they were growing!)

This is a nice idea — a week in pictures. Thank you.
