PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE

On the Move Again

Week 34 of the photographic documentary of my daily life

I guess I am living the life of a modern Nomad. Every few months I’m moving locations. Usually flying across continents to get to my next home. And here I did it again.

Home is wherever I set up my new base. I do settle in quite quickly by now and have had homes spread over three different continents. The part of saying goodbye doesn’t get easier. But the packing does. In less than two hours I’ve packed together with my husband all our belongings. Ready to move again.

It’s the last night in Namibia. We chose to stay at a campsite rather than booking a room. Since we love our camping set-up it’s comfortable for us. Enjoying the last gin&tonic before going to bed.

This is the day the flying marathon started. Since we didn’t like the airline offering a direct flight from Namibia to Germany we chose a three-legged flight via Johannesburg and Doha.

This picture was taken as we were approaching O.R. Tambo International Airport in South Africa. The outskirts of Johannesburg under the blue African sky.

The next flight was during the night and the last flight from Doha to Germany happened to have a rough descent through several layers of clouds. Now, this is something skydivers don’t like.

Not particularly the turbulence. But landing with the plane. We normally jump out of the plane before it starts to descend. So in case you should see a passenger sweating during the final approach just consider it being one of those adrenaline-filled people who jump out of planes but get scared when landing with a jet.

Home sweet home. We’re back in our fairytale village. Birds were singing on our arrival. Butterflies flying from one flower to another. And the sun shining on our first full day in the flat.

On the second day, we escaped the house to explore the forest. The landscape reminded me more of a dead forest. But this too will soon change. Life will come back and nature awakens.

Spring is already to be seen. In many gardens in the village, the first signs of spring are already in full bloom. Flowers in all colors and variations are attracting bees and other insects.

My mom came to visit today. It was great seeing her. Late in the afternoon we went for a hike in the forest and passed this lovely pond. She was fascinated by it.

Frogs were having the best time of their life. In all corners of the water, one could see frogs mating. And some of them were even a step further. Frogspawn was to be seen on the reeds in the water. Look closely at the picture and you’ll see the pile of eggs.

This has been my week in photographs. 7 days. 7 photographs. Anyone can join. Once of. Or weekly. It doesn’t matter. We welcome anyone! Dennett was the one starting this photography challenge sometime last year and many have participated ever since.
