PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE
Some More Traveling
Week 35 of the photographic documentary of my daily life
While I shortened my quarantine in Germany with an additional covid test I was already on the move to the next country. For a further training course in skydiving, I flew this week to Spain.
And before you are getting upset about me being ignorant and traveling despite a pandemic going around the world — I’m following country rules and I have done four Covid tests in the last 10 days in order to prevent a further spread of the disease.
This week’s photo essay is about nature, views from above, and the stunningly beautiful sunrises of Andalucía. Those magical moments when the sun wakes up and a new day begins.

We just settled in after the first week in Germany. In our lovely flat in the fairytale village surrounded by nothing but forest. This is our home. For now. For the next few months.
After collecting some firewood in the forest we were ready for our first braai (Afrikaans for barbecue) on our lovely terrace. The weather was warm and sunny.

Going on daily hikes in the surrounding forest I was first surprised by the “dead forest” how my husband described it. The winter was long and not much life could be seen.
But already a few days later, after adjusting my eyes to the new surrounding, I started seeing them. The first signs of spring. Flowers blooming in the neighboring gardens and seedlings shooting out of the forest floor.
Spring is here.

And then yes, as mentioned, I was on the move again. It’s kind of a business trip. Kind of an educational trip. Whatever you want to call it. To get my further training and rating I wanted to receive I had to fly to Spain.
Since my flight was early in the morning I took the train the day before and stayed one night in Frankfurt. This was the view out of the hostel room. City life. Not my kind of life. But sometimes I get to experience it as well. On a small scale at least.

And here I was again. Sitting on my favorite seat on the plane. Staring out of the window. Watching clouds fly by. Seeing the snow-capped mountains of the alps in the distance.

My first full day in Spain. The course had started already and I spend most of my time in the classroom or inspecting the airport where the skydiving operation was taking place.
When it was time to get home (or let’s say into my hotel room) my instructor showed me a different route. A bumpy gravel road filled with massive potholes.
But it was also a scenic route. Passing cornfields, poppy flowers, and several olive plantations I did not care about the conditions of the road anymore. It was incredibly beautiful.

Starting the classes every day at 8 a.m. I was driving into the rising sun. The sky turned pink and purple and after the sun came up on the horizon everything was painted in yellow and orange.
The last time I got to see the rising sun was when we were still camping in Namibia. When you camp you get up with the sun. But these sunrises here in Spain were taking my breath away.

Every morning before starting the classes I ran outside to get a shot of this magic moment. To have a photo a day for the challenge but also to save this experience and be able to share it with my readers.
This has been my week in photographs. 7 days. 7 photographs. Anyone can join. Once of. Or weekly. It doesn’t matter. We welcome anyone! Dennett was the one starting this photography challenge sometime last year and many have participated ever since.
