Are You Feeling Lonely?
There are several ways to beat the blues
Do you ever feel lonely? I guess everyone does from time to time. If you do, you can either have a pity party or grab the bull by the horns and do something about it.
Did you ever watch ‘Murder She Wrote’? Jessica Fletcher felt lonely after she lost her husband Frank. To fill the lonely hours, she wrote a story and went on to become a famous mystery writer. True, the show was based on fiction, but it could happen, right? You won’t know it until you try it.
So instead of feeling down and lonely, why not grab a pen and paper, or fire up your computer, and write something. It doesn’t have to be a murder mystery, it can be anything. It could be the start of something new for you.
If writing a novel seems too daunting, how about starting a blog. You can talk about anything and everything in your blog. There’s nobody to tell you what to do or not to do. This is your baby. Talk about your daily life, talk about your dreams, your ups and downs, your problems, your fears. Your blog is an outlet and that’s something we all need, a place to rejoice, to inform, to vent, to share, to let off steam. Try it, you might like it.
If a blog is not your cup of tea, how about a correspondence? At PenPal World you can meet people from all over the world. You can write letters to each other or emails. While in the beginning, you might not know much about each other, in due time you could become best friends. A penpal is a special kind of friend, someone you can share your life with. Depending on where your penpal lives you can meet in person in due time, or merely write to each other. There’s no timetable. You can write daily, weekly, or monthly, it’s all up to you.
If it’s company you crave, how about a pet? You could save a life and adopt a kitten or a cat, a puppy or a dog. Do keep in mind though, kittens and puppies need inoculations and in due time need to be spayed/neutered. This costs money. On the other hand, if you adopt a cat or a dog from a shelter, all that has already been taken care of. You’ll have a friend for years to come and he or she will adore you for saving his or her life.
If you prefer human company, consider getting a roommate. Whether you consider a male or a female, do be careful though. Interview the candidate to determine if you two are compatible. Even though they say that opposites attract, that’s not always the case. For instance, if you’re a home pigeon and your roommate is a party animal, you’re bound to clash. If you’re houseproud and your roommate is a slob, there will be tension. If you have pets and your roommate is allergic to cats or dogs, that’s not going to work either.
In addition, do your homework. Ask for references and check up on them. Go online and check the potential roommate's social media. You’d be surprised what you can learn with a little digging.
Have you considered an imaginary friend?
It’s the same as having a roommate, only this one won’t give you any problems. If you think that imaginary friends are for children, think again. Imaginary friends are rather popular, not only among singles and empty nesters but are also company for people who spend a lot of time alone. Imaginary friends come in handy for people whose partner works long hours, travels a lot, or for one reason or another are away from home.
Another way to beat the loneliness is by volunteering. You could lend a helping hand at a hospital, a retirement home, an animal shelter, a veterinarian clinic, or a library. Free help is always welcome.
Keep in mind that feeling lonely doesn’t last. Regardless of what has you down, tomorrow, next week, or next month you’ll feel better. In the meantime, take your mind off things with something you enjoy. Make yourself a cup of coffee or tea, grab a box of chocolates or a pizza and emerge yourself in a book.
If you’re the kind that likes to keep your hands busy, take up knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch, or diamond painting.
Do you like shopping? Go ahead. Go online and find something you like. Nothing lifts the spirits than getting something new.
Then there’s always music. Forget the sad songs, that the last thing you need. Put on something with a beat, something to dance to. Here is something for everyone:
If nothing appeals to you, maybe it’s time to just give in and vegs out in front of the TV. Watch your favorite movies or series, and wait for better days to come.
And come they will. Nothing lasts forever.
