8 Simple Tips To Feel Better
Guaranteed to work
Are you having a bad day? Do you feel depressed? According to WebMD, there are seven kinds of depression, but I’m not referring to any of those. Neither am I referring to feeling sad for a specific reason. The death of a loved one, the diagnosis of an illness, or the end of a relationship, are legitimate reasons to feel sad. No, I’m talking about having a blue day. Everyone has them from time to time. You can wallow in them and give in to this pity party, or you can fight such a blue day with these simple tips.
1. Get clean
Moping around in your pajamas is not going to do anything for your mental well-being. You may not feel like it, but having an invigorating shower is just the thing to chase the cobwebs away. Whether you like a hot or cold shower, the feel of the water combined with the scent of shower gel has a positive effect on your senses.
2. Wear something nice
Get dressed. Give those sweatpants and t-shirts a miss and put on real clothes. Whether it's jeans or pants with a shirt or a blouse, a dress or a skirt, make yourself look presentable. I’m not saying that you have to get dressed up, but make an effort. You may think that sweats and t-shirts are more comfortable, but they do nothing for your inner self. If you look sloppy, your feel sloppy. If you don’t feel like wearing makeup, no problem, but ladies, put on some lipstick, and gentlemen, shave. When you look good, you feel good.
3. Have breakfast
Next, brew some coffee or tea and make breakfast. You’d be surprised how much better you’ll feel with a little nourishment in your body. By that, I don’t mean drinking a glass of water with a slice of lemon or nibbling on a breakfast bar. If you feel like it, scramble some eggs or boil an egg. No egg? No problem, have a tub of yogurt, a bowl of cereal, and finish off with fruit.
4. Listen to music
You’ve probably read it a hundred times before but listening to music is a proven way to feel better. Not some slow tragic love song though, but something rhythmic, something to dance to. And feel free to turn up the volume. If you fear the neighbors might complain, listen with headphones.
5. Get some exercise
Any form of exercise releases endorphins, also known as feel-good hormones. Any type of exercise will do. If you’re the athletic type, go for a run. If running is too much effort, at least go for a walk. If you prefer to stay indoors, dance. Take the song ‘Walking on Sunshine’ for instance. Can you honestly sit still when listening to this song?
