Summary

The website content outlines the fourth story arc of a collaborative, interactive "choose your own adventure" drabble titled "Boundless Luck," where the protagonist, after declining an invitation to join a group, goes hunting, gets lucky with a stag, but ends up encountering goblins and falling into a pit.

Abstract

The narrative continues from previous chapters where the reader, as the protagonist, decides to go hunting instead of joining a group. After firing a lucky arrow, the protagonist successfully hunts a stag but finds goblins feasting on the kill, thanking them for dinner. The protagonist, seeking an exit from the situation, is misled by the goblins into falling into a pit. This chapter is part of a larger collaborative story project on Medium, inviting readers to contribute their own chapters or stories, with links provided for membership and participation in the project.

Opinions

  • The protagonist's decision to hunt alone is portrayed as risky and unconventional, as indicated by the group's reaction.
  • The protagonist's luck in hunting is presented as a humorous twist when the goblins benefit from it instead.
  • The goblins' mocking tone and trickery suggest a cautionary tale about trusting strangers in unfamiliar territories.
  • The narrative's interactive nature and the invitation for reader contribution emphasize the value of community and collaborative storytelling.
  • The use of a pit as a plot device reflects a common trope in adventure stories, symbolizing unexpected setbacks and challenges.

”Actually, I’ll pass,” you say. “I came here to hunt.”

“Alone? Good luck with that!”

Soon you’re alone. You pause… then fire a speculative arrow in a high arc. Seconds later, you hear the sound of a stag yelp, and collapse.

“Whew! That was lucky!”

You run towards the sound.

But when you reach the carcass, a gaggle of goblins is already carving it up. “Thanks for dinner, goblin-friend,” they say.

“I’m no… urgh…” you mumble. “Show me the way out!”

They snigger. “That way!”

You walk the way they pointed, then find yourself falling down into a pit…
