Habits and Happiness
5 Simple Habits That’ll Make You Feel Happier
Change your mood and lift your spirit

Maybe times are strange and you’ve been feeling a bit depressed lately. Maybe life got too chaotic, and you feel lost.
Maybe the world is dragging you down with its many problems.
Maybe you’ve been feeling this way for a while now and you’re losing hope, but don’t.
Not yet.
It only takes a second for your mood to change.
By developing these healthy habits, you can alter your mood, find your soul, and rewrite your story.
While these steps may not bring results for you overnight, over time you will see the change.
Before you begin, you must believe that it’s possible you can be happy again. Without the belief that you can and will be happy, you’ll fail. Then you must set your intentions. Without the intention, there’s no will. Then you must prepare to actually take action. Without action… well, then it’s impossible for anything to happen.
Intentionally do one or all of these for 21 days straight and you will start to feel life flipping right before your eyes.
1. Practice Gratitude
This is the first and most important.
You must be grateful for your life now — whether you like your life or not — because some people don’t have it. They’re dead. Some are lost and others have nowhere to call home.
Say thanks for what you have and say it often.
Say it before you eat. Be grateful for the food on your plate. Bless the farmer and the person who prepared it. Bless your soul.
Smile as you say thanks.
Feel gratitude and feel it deep inside your heart. Close your eyes and feel it in your bones.
Gratitude is a good attitude. Practice daily and it becomes a habit. Then you’ll see how blessed, how fortunate, and how lucky you are!
Give thanks for what you have before you pray for what you need. Count your blessings and give thanks for each and every one of them.
Says thanks for the things you asked, wished, prayed, and hoped for that are on the way to you. Says thanks for the opportunities that will fall into your lap.
Say thanks for every great idea. Say thanks to every comforting thought.
Say thanks to mom and dad just because.
Gratitude will impact your feelings of happiness and will help you see the blessing in everything.
When you’re counting blessings, you’re happy.
Says thanks for the things you asked, wished, prayed and hoped for that are on the way to you.
2. Go With The Flow
Life flows and happy people go with the flow.
Flow is a state where you are fully immersed in the present moment and fully immersed in whatever it is you’re doing.
When you’re in flow, there’s intense concentration and focus. You ride with the wind and float with the waves. You go where it takes you and you lose track of time.
“Where did the time go?”
When you’re fully absorbed in what you’re doing, there’s a sense of timelessness. When you’re in flow, there’s an awareness of self and a consciousness of the universe all around you.
It may be difficult to achieve flow when you don’t know what makes you happy. It’s hard when you don’t feel like doing anything.
But believe it’s possible and it is!
Think about your talents, gifts, purpose, and passions. You have it! Figure out what makes you light up and do it more often.
Whatever it is that gets you to a flow state, be it writing, meditating, teaching, being in nature, playing the piano, spending time with your favorite person in the whole world, do it more often.
Whatever you do that makes you forget time, it’s a good idea to do more of that and you’ll soon say you’re very, very happy.
Happy people go with the flow.
3. Bask in The Little Moments
Enjoy life’s most glorious moments like the cool breeze that blew on your back on a hot afternoon. Or the rain that fell when your garden really needed water.
Did the beauty of the full moon almost take your breath away? Stop and bask in its glory and splendor.
Savor the good moments and enjoy the good times. Enjoy every bite of your lunch. Chew the butter cookie slowly and feel your taste buds rising with joy.
Don’t let any of these magical moments flow past. Be aware and alert so you don’t miss them.
Control your thoughts and teach them to appreciate every little thing. No matter how small.
Don’t let any of those magical little moments flow past you. Bask in it.
4. Sleep Long and Deep
You won’t be happy when you’re tired and grumpy. You’re more likely to feel happy thoughts and feelings when you’re well-rested.
Sleep is extremely important. Lose sleep and you kill your tiny brain cells.
That is why you must get a good night's rest every night. Sleep in the night so you can conquer the day. Turn off the lights so you can sleep deeply. Keep it on if you need it to sleep deeply.
Set reminders to go to sleep on time and make it a habit. When it’s time for bed, make no excuses and when you go, don’t bring the cellphone into the bed.
Be grateful for a day where you got closer to happiness, say your prayers, and dream sweet dreams.
You’re not happy when you’re tired all the time.
5. Set Meaningful Goals
This is not the kind of goal that takes you years to accomplish. Set small goals that are easy to achieve.
Set a goal to make the bed after you get out of it in the morning. Set a goal to follow through with some of these habits. Set a goal to break bad habits. Set a goal to achieve flow states every day.
It’s easy to fall into depressive states when you have nothing to look forward to. Set a goal to motivate yourself when you feel down so you can keep looking ahead.
Pursue your passion and find your purpose. Life is meaningful when you’re achieving goals, no matter how small.
Life is fun when you’re crushing your goals.
Bonus: Make Friends With Nature
When you’re unhappy and wish for a change, nature is your friend. Nature is your friend because nature understands what you’re going through.
Nature knows the cycles of life.
It knows that nothing lasts forever. A tree loses its leaves but it doesn’t falter. A snake loses its skin but it doesn’t panic. Nature doesn’t falter or panic because it understands that for new things to come in, the old must fall away.
Nature is happiness.
What’s not to be happy about the crisp blue skies, the deep blue seas, the green trees of life, and the magnificent animals that walk the land? How wouldn’t a mighty mountain fill your heart with happiness?
There’s healing in nature. Bask in its healing powers. Let it help you heal your past. Let it help you calm your mind and soothe your heart.
Take walks to clear your mind when it gets clouded.
Go outside and watch the birds. Listen to their songs. Let them whisper sweet messages and melodies into your ears.
Make nature your friend and hand over your depression. Watch it flow and you flow too. Soon, you’ll be filled with an abundance of joy and hope for a brighter, future.
Do all these things and soon you will say, “I am happy” and you will truly mean it.
