1. Believe the World Is Out to Get You and It Will

You ever wondered how certain people seem to get everything they want and others struggle to even get out of bed in the morning? Is it ambition? An intense drive or a strong passion? Nope.

It’s the mindset.

People who struggle to get out of bed in the morning and then complain as they get ready for work have a fixed mindset. A person with a fixed mindset is fixed and stuck in their ways and thinking with little to no inclination to change. They do the same things day in and day out. When they look back on life, they don’t see much improvement.

They believe they’re not good enough to achieve their goals and they normally don’t. They get discouraged and they give up. Then they complain that the world is out to get them.

These people only want their life to be filled with light, or life is just too dark. They won't open their minds up to the idea that the most profound transformations happen in total darkness.

To them, it’s either a full-grown seedling now or woe is them. It’s either a butterfly now or woe is then. It’s either a full moon or the universe won’t even bless them with the moon’s radiance. They want things to happen their way and fast or they’ll stomp their feet.

People with a fixed mindset tend to be negative and incredibly difficult to be around. They are the kind to belittle your dreams and rain on your parade.

People with a fixed mindset believe they’re not good enough to achieve certain goals and they normally don’t.

2. Believe You Can Do Anything and You Will

Those who have achieved great things in their lives believed they could do it, and so they did. Even when they had no idea what they were doing, they knew they could learn.

These people have a growth mindset.

When you have a growth mindset, you believe everything is possible and there’s nothing you can’t do. When you encounter challenges along the way, you’re not discouraged. You don't start having thoughts about giving up. You work harder to find a solution.

You don’t fear the growth process. You understand that a seed grows in total darkness. You know that the caterpillar in the cocoon is going through profound changes, even though you can't see it. Yet. You understand transformations are taking place even when the moon is dark.

People with a growth mindset understand that life is a process. It Involves taking many steps. They know growth begins in darkness and the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

These people are fun to be around as they see the glass as half full. They are positive and will encourage you to keep working toward your goals. They don’t give up when they face challenges and they will make sure you don't.

3. Your Mindset is Your Most Important Asset

Your mindset is the state of your soul. It is the voice in your head.

The voice in my head tells me I’ve found my purpose and I’m doing this work for as long as my eyes will let me. That’s how my soul feels, and I can feel that. That mindset drives me. It moves me to write in the morning.

The right mindset can wake you up in the morning with a song on your lips and the wrong mindset will have you hitting the snooze button knowing you’re running late.

Your mindset is the state of your soul, and your mind is as strong or as weak as your soul is.

When you have a fixed mindset, it’s incredibly difficult to build anything significant. When you have a growth mindset, it’s impossible not to grow.

Your mindset controls your thoughts, words, and emotions. It controls the way you speak to yourself. It controls everything you do. Your mindset dictates how you perceive the situations you find yourself in. It determines how you interpret challenges, setbacks, and pain.

Your mindset decides how soon you get back on your feet when life knocks you down or how long you’ll stay down.

Your mindset is your most valuable asset. It is the first asset to have that helps you in acquiring more assets.

When you have a fixed mindset, it’s incredibly difficult to build anything significant. When you have a growth mindset, it's impossible not to grow.

How to Cultivate a Growth Mindset

You can cultivate a growth mindset and see challenges, setbacks, and pain as an opportunity to learn and grow.

Rewriting the stories you tell yourself is a huge step in changing your mindset. Capturing rebellious thoughts and teaching them to obey you is also a good step. Controlling the limiting voices in your head will make all the difference.

Cultivating a growth mindset is a process, one that must be worked on every day. It starts with watching the things you think and the things you say. When an old critical voice or an old limiting belief arises, you can respond with your new and improved mindset.

You can tell the critical voice and limiting belief that it’s a new day and you don’t think like that or do those things anymore. You’re a new person with a different mindset.

Instead of saying, I don’t have the experience to do something, you say I don’t have the experience to do it “yet.” Just because you can’t do something doesn’t mean you can’t learn and become a pro.

A simple word like yet is powerful in improving your mindset and boosting your motivation. It shifts a fixed mindset into a growth mindset.

This is why it’s important to praise the process instead of the outcome, especially with children. Instead of praising them for completing a project, you praise them for the process and the effort they put into completing the project.

Instead of saying: “Well done. You’re really good at maths.”

Say: “Amazing work! I saw how hard you practiced. Look how well you’ve done.”

This way when they’re failing at math, they know they just have to keep practicing and they’ll get it. If you tell them they’re so smart or really great at maths, they’ll think they’re not smart or they suck at math when they can’t get it right.

When they say: “I can’t do it. It's too difficult.”

Say: “You can’t do it yet. Keep working on it. Practice makes perfect.”

A simple word like yet is powerful in improving your mindset and boosting your motivation. It shifts a fixed mindset into a growth mindset.

What if Your Mindset Is Already Fixed?

You can change your mindset when you really want to. When you really don’t want to, you’ll make excuses why it’s too difficult or too late to change your thinking.

You can train your brain and improve your mindset, but the process begins with strengthening your soul. It’s possible if there’s a will and the desire to change your life, but cultivating a growth mindset doesn’t just require willpower.

Brains no matter how long it’s been wired to think a certain way can be rewired to think differently. The brain is like a muscle that can be trained and rewired to form new neural pathways, a process neuroscientists call neuroplasticity.

To rewire your brain, you must do new things. You can’t expect your brain to grow and your mindset to improve if you’re constantly doing the same things.

The more you train your brain; the more vicious thoughts you tame and the more you watch the things you say to yourself, the more you grow and your mindset improves.

Growth requires darkness. There’s often a bit of discomfort and there’s pain and challenges, but seeing what comes out of the dark is empowering. Seedlings and butterflies bring hope. And full moons are magical.

To rewire your brain, you must do new things. You can’t expect your brain to grow and your mindset to improve if you’re constantly doing the same things.

You’re not going to be rich in mindset overnight. It’s impossible if you’ve been fixed in mindset for years. It’s going to take time and effort.

Don’t put pressure on yourself when your thoughts are out of control. Instead, have compassion for yourself as you train and rewire your brain. It can be done.

Start with baby steps. Don’t worry too much about the outcome. Instead, focus on the process you’re going through and what you’re trying to accomplish.

Over time, you’ll see how far you’ve come and how much you’ve improved.

When you see how far you’ve come, you’ll continue going instead of going back to the old way of thinking and doing things. When you see how much you’ve improved, it will build your confidence in believing you can really do anything you put your mind to.

Cultivating a growth mindset could be the single most important thing you ever do in your life. Don’t fear the process. Embrace it. Don’t run from the challenges, let them grow and empower you.
