5 Principles and Mindset Shifts I Wish I’d Learned and Adjusted Sooner
Living aware of these facts energized me to produce better and more with less effort

Purpose of the Article
In this opinion piece, I would like to share some key principles and mindset shifts that have contributed significantly to my personal growth and development.
These are valuable insights I have learned through my own experiences and have found to be effective in enhancing my creativity, productivity, health, and overall well-being.
I understand that these principles may not resonate with everyone and that everyone’s journey is unique. However, I hope that by sharing these principles, I can provide helpful insights and inspiration for those who may be interested.
I invite readers to take what resonates with them and adapt these principles to suit their own needs. My goal is to provide a helpful perspective rather than seeking approval or agreement.
Remember, what works for me, may not work for you, but I hope that some of these principles may be beneficial for you as well
1 — Health and happiness are our personal responsibilities.
When I was unwell and suffering from health conditions, no one except the immediate family seemed to care. Some people showed empathy and compassion for my situation, but they could not do anything useful to improve my health or bring me happiness.
It became apparent that I needed to understand the root causes of my problems and find solutions to address them. Following the scientific method helped me achieve these goals.
Of course, seeking help from others is valuable, but it is entirely up to us to create and execute our plan for the desired success. The others might contribute to the solution, but our responsibility is to manage the process.
I came to the realization that unless we choose happiness, no one can make us happy. Happiness is an internal construct. The quality of our thoughts, emotions, and actions determines our joy and happiness.
2 — We don’t need the permission of others for our decisions and actions.
As free adults, we are responsible for our actions. I realized that we don’t need anyone’s permission to start an initiative, work in a specific field, choose a hobby, learn what we want, or do what we need to do.
It is helpful to get ideas from others or advice from professionals in a specific context. However, we don’t need permission from others to realize our goals. We only need permission when we desire to contribute to their lives. It is impossible to obtain the approval of everyone. Besides, it is unnecessary.
The truth is not many people, except for immediate family members or very close friends, or perhaps some colleagues, care about what we think, what we do, and the results we achieve unless it relates to them. It is our perception that strangers have a stake in our actions.
My key point is we don’t need permission from others for our decisions and actions, even though we can obtain feedback and learn from them. Even for obtaining feedback or learning from them, we give permission to ourselves, not others.
3 — Every problem comes with a solution.
Concerning problems, the first helpful approach for my creativity and productivity was seeing the problems as opportunities rather than burdens.
The second helpful approach was to believe every problem comes with a solution. Some solutions can be better or worse than others. It is up to our problem-solving skills, commitment, diligence, and determination.
From my experience, every problem can be figured out if we put enough time and energy into the solution. Problem-solving is a skill anyone can gain with effort and time.
4 — We create our own realities.
The universal truth might apply to everyone. However, there are multiple realities in life. We see realities based on our perceptions. Each brain might process information differently. Therefore, the perception of reality is an individual matter.
Our thoughts, emotions, decisions, and behaviors create our reality. Some of our realities might have similarities, but they are not identical.
For example, my lifestyle and circumstances reflect my reality. My loved ones have different lifestyles and circumstances. So they have their own reality. We might have some common points, but overall our realities differ.
5 — Everything is temporary and constantly changes.
Nothing stays static. Everything constantly changes, evolves, and gets a different form, shape, or entity over time.
This universal truth helped me look at issues more positively and optimistically. A painful situation can be turned into a pleasurable state later. The transition period is usually the most challenging.
I found this principle helpful in my health and fitness journey. The pain I experienced was temporary. By changing the energy through my thoughts, emotions, and actions, I transformed some pain into pleasure gradually.
Conclusions and Takeaways
Life is full of constants and variables. We cannot change constants, but by changing variables, we can make constraints more bearable or palatable. Thus, I only focus on what I can control and change.
These five principles gave me additional freedom to design my life based on my needs and desires. By adapting these mindsets, I managed to perform in a flow state with less struggle.
I always learn from others with gratitude. However, I choose not to depend on anyone and get permission for my happiness. It is possible to become happy without external input, in my experience.
We are social animals needing the support of each other. Nevertheless, in my opinion, it is more fulfilling to live our lives without co-dependency on each other, no matter how close our relationships are.
These items might not sound perfect to some people. However, I deliberately refrain from perfection, as I articulated in a story titled Here’s How to Find Perfection in Imperfection.
