Self-Improvement — #ILLUMINATION
3 Free Seminars on Personal Growth.
Step right this way if you will.
What is your favorite quote? Who said it? Where did you read or hear it?
I have been collecting words of wisdom for many years, and have a file on my computer that has hundreds of quotes.
Everyone likes a good quote. It doesn’t even have to be from someone famous, so long as they’ve said something valuable.
My dad used to say, “You might even find a gem in a gutter if you keep your eyes open.”
Did you see what I just did? I used a quote from my dad. He had a significant impact on my life.
My friend and mentor, Barbara Winter, has curated a book of her favorite quotes. It’s called A Seminar in a Sentence.
Barbara is also the author of the mega-successful entrepreneurship manual, Making a Living Without a Job. It’s not a how-to manual; it’s a why-to manual that makes you think. She does offer a sh*t load of ideas, though. (Both books are available on Amazon and brick and mortar bookstores)
I have been pestering, I mean, nudging her forward to share her wisdom on Medium, and now on #ILLUMINATION. Let’s overwhelm her with some love.
As I promised in the headline, here they are.
Three Free Seminars — in a sentence each.
“Trying to build a business without entrepreneurial thinking is like trying to build a house with a toothbrush.” ~Barbara Winter
Many people who dream of starting their own business falter because they fail to distinguish the difference between the mindsets of an employee and an entrepreneur.
“In our world of big names, curiously, our true heroes tend to be anonymous.” ~Daniel J Boorstin
I am a Muslim, and I know that Islam teaches, “Give with your right hand in such a way that your left hand knows not.” There is much to be said about giving unselfishly and anonymously.
“Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself then Providence moves too.” ~ William Hamilton Murray
It is a part of my favorite and more extensive quote that sets the stage for all the stories in my book Life: it’s a trip, that I wrote in 30 days. There is a story behind how the quote came to be my favorite, but that’s another tale in itself.
My three takeaways
1. Personal Growth is a journey. Self-improvement requires constant and consistent learning. Expand your mindset, become an entrepreneur, and learn how to Mind Your Own Business.
2. Anybody can be a hero, even you. You don’t have to be a celebrity to be helpful. Be generous and giving, and you can change lives without anyone knowing about it.
3. Make a commitment, first and foremost, to yourself and your personal development. By finding ways to becoming more, you’ll have the Universe conspiring for you.
And here is a bonus seminar — in a sentence, of course, because I believe in delivering more than I promise.
“You can render to God and humanity no greater service than to make the most of yourself.” ~Wallace D Wattles
Day fifteen of the 30-day challenge. My theme: Self Improvement
As always, thank you for reading. Here are some bonuses. {;-)
