Your Niche Has Nothing to Do With Your Topics!

Stop obsessing over topics! This is what you should do instead.

So you think picking a niche is about finding a super specific topic? What if I told you you’re wrong?

Don’t panic! You’re not alone. I’ve been there too.

I’ve tried sharing my super-valuable experience on just one very specific topic, and guess what? Nobody cared about that crap!

Why?

The problem with focusing on one specific topic

  1. Your audience becomes bored too early. Unless you’re writing jokes for example.
  2. You can hardly grow and scale. Unless you’re writing recipes maybe.
  3. You run out of ideas pretty quickly. Faster than a cheetah on Red Bull.

So, what is it all about?

Here it is:

Her Majesty, the AUDIENCE!

Who are you writing for? Who do you help, entertain, make laugh, or make think?

A niche is all about THEM, not you, and not this or that.

Sure, you can write about your weird hobbies, your controversial cat theories, or whatever keeps the words flowing. But the magic happens when you make it relevant to your audience. If your articles resonate with a bunch of moms of twins, for example, BOOM! That’s a niche.

But what about the topics?

Exactly! The beauty of having a niche focused on the audience is that you can choose whatever topic you like!

A niche lets you branch out as long as it serves your audience. Whatever you choose to write about, there’s just one rule:

Make it relevant to them. Solve their problems, don’t share how you solved yours.

Think of your niche as a love affair with a specific crowd, not a prison sentence shackling you to a single subject. Write about what you want, but make it about them.

Here’s what I do:

  • Talk from your readers’ point of view. Walk in their shoes.
  • Make the topic relevant to them, not you.
  • Write as you speak — as if you’re talking to your best friend in a bar.

Does it have to be super specific?

The topics? No. The audience? Yes! The more specific, the better, especially if you’re new to writing.

Why?

It’s easier to connect with your audience. And even easier to find a topic to write about.

The result: you have more views, more reads, longer reads, and you grow faster.

Remember, people connect with people. Like you and me. Write for the people.
