You Run After The Shadow
Into the depths of the gloomy gardens

Without a second to stop and gander at the garden’s contents, you lock onto your fresh target.
The shadow is quite quick, but you have no problem catching up even as several minutes pass.
You lunge at them full force, both of you tumbling against the ground and arriving at a sudden stop.
You raise your head and notice that your target has ceased to move any further, and is facing the opposite direction.
Though your adrenaline is pumping, you take a moment to look around, only to find yourself amid a flurry of ornate statues.
The area is much wider and open, compared to the narrow hedge paths you had to navigate to subdue the shadow.
You look back to the shadow, and it remains still as can be without so much as a sign of drawing breaths.
Determined to figure out who or what this thing is, you walk over, looming over them before reaching down to their back.
It appears that they’re wearing some sort of black cloak and at this point, they still haven’t moved.
A familiar black liquid begins to ooze out from the body toward your feet, which invokes quite a bit of shock.
You decide to stop waiting and turn them over, only to find the whole front of their face is disguised with a massive eye-shaped symbol.
As soon as this happens, you hear rustling from a set of bushes behind you, only to find no movements.
You soon come to regret paying mind to the sound, as a fiery sensation rings out from your neck.
You collapse to the ground and writhe as blood begins to seep from your neck through a fresh cut.
You peer up only to find the shadow staring down at you with its piercing eye.
The mere sight causes you to scream in pain and fear as the night comes to fiery conflict.
In the hands of the shadow is a raised dagger poised to strike you dozens of times.
Just before moving any further, the figure asks you:
“Are you afraid of the dark?”
The question is poised through the form of a whisper, brimmed to the teeth with malice.
In such a situation you need to make a choice.
