From Pain to Purpose
You Have Two Choices When Things Go Wrong
Nothing is as it seems on the outside

The Invisible Spiritual Tests
It’s very true that the universe can make things go wrong just to save us from destruction if that’s what it takes. Good things can sometimes arise from bad situations, but the universe never asks us to paint a rosy picture of the pain, despair, distress, disappointment, or discomfort we feel. And we are definitely never asked to pretend our problems don’t exist, either.
If we paint a rosy picture or pretend our problems don’t exist, we don’t learn what the universe wants us to learn. The universe wants us to learn so our souls can grow and evolve.
Just like our physical bodies need exercise to strengthen muscles, souls rely on tests and karmic lessons to get stronger.
Because the soul needs to evolve, the universe gives us lessons to test and to teach us important life lessons.
Sometimes the difficult things we go through are tests to get us ready for the next stage of the spiritual journey. Learning is the only way we can truly advance on our physical and spiritual journeys.
When you’re going through a very difficult time, it may not look like it’s for a purpose. All you may feel is the sting, but once you learn your lessons, the pain subsides, it moves on and you move forward.
If you can look beyond the challenges and difficulties to find the lessons, you’ll see the blessings that follow. If you don’t give up and you keep learning, you will see how much stronger and wiser you’ll become.
Summer always comes after winter. Light follows the darkness. And the sun always returns when the storm is over.
Looking Beyond the Challenges
Christ saw beyond his suffering on the cross to see kingship in the kingdom of heaven. He looked beyond the thorn in his crown, piercing his flesh to see a majestic crown of power. He looked beyond the nails in his hands and feet to see an exalted name in all the land.
He could endure the suffering because he knew the blessing that would follow and that’s the same mindset we must have — whether we believe in Christ or not — when we go through periods of trials and testing.
Because everything happens for a reason.
Instead of dwelling on the challenges and difficulties, we must look beyond them. Instead of focusing on the pain, we must focus on how the pain is powering and empowering us. That’s what it means to persevere. Perseverance builds character and is what it takes to go from breaking down to breaking free.
Just like our physical bodies need exercise to strengthen muscles, souls rely on tests and karmic lessons to get stronger.
The Choice is Yours
When things go wrong, you have two choices: become a victim of your pain or let your pain propel you into purpose. One keeps you stuck and the other keeps you progressing.
When you’re going through a challenging period and you wonder what the universe is doing to help you, remember the teacher is always quiet during the test.
It’s okay to find a test too hard. It’s okay to find a lesson too painful. It’s okay to not know all the answers. You’re human. It’s not easy to look beyond pain when you’re in pain, but you can find comfort knowing your pain has a purpose. Plans fall through the cracks and ideas fizzle out, but certain things happen for a divine purpose even if you can’t see it or understand it.
