Pun intended!

Dear reader,

This is my second story on this platform, inspired by some readers, writers, and editors who encouraged me to write my many years of life experiences. As a retiree, I dedicated myself to self-care, reading, expressive writing, and numerous hobbies, which I will discuss in upcoming stories.

The purpose of this story is to share my thoughts about the importance of euphoric feelings introduced to me by my friend Dr Mehmet Yildiz.

I met him years ago through work engagements, but I did not know he was writing on online platforms like Medium, Vocal Media, or NewsBreak.

When he invited me to Medium as a member, I discovered his publication, EUPHORIA. I asked him about the meaning of euphoria.

I knew conceptually but never thought about it intentionally and had never had a chance to practice deliberately. As soon as he shared his two stories with me, this concept became a practice for me.

He said, “Natural euphoria, from my perspective, is not as crazy a state of mind as often perceived. On the contrary, it is an altered state of mind reflecting the inner joy from simply embodying a precious human on this earth, accepting life as is by staying in the reality zone with pleasant excitement despite frenetic noise and environmental disruptions.”

Precisely, this was what I needed in my retirement years. I am glad I learned about this wonderful feeling and included it in my daily life. I started with the lyrics of the song Euphoria by Loreen, who won Eurovision 2012 which I fell in love. She also won the Eurovision in 2023.

Yesterday, after writing my first story, Dr. Yildiz invited me to become an editor for his publication Readers Hope, supporting new writers. He helped me become a paid member to pursue my volunteer editorial role.

His kind gesture created a euphoric moment in my spartan life as I never thought of myself being a writer and an editor on the same day on a large platform which was a dream for me.

When I woke up this morning, I couldn’t believe my eyes as my story had many applause and several comments. It gave me another euphoric moment naturally.

I also fell in love with the publication of Dr. Yildiz, which greatly educated and inspired me. After these two examples, I hope my pun in my subtitles makes sense. But there is more to it.

I would like to briefly share my thoughts and what I learned about euphoria recently, hoping you might also try testing this wonderful sensation if you haven’t tried it yet.

Euphoria refers to an intense feeling of joy, pleasure, or happiness. A heightened sense of well-being and emotional and mental bliss characterizes it. Euphoria is important for mental health for several reasons as I will outline below.

Enhanced Mood and Motivation

Euphoria can boost mood and motivation levels, providing us with vitality and enthusiasm. This heightened state of well-being can increase productivity, creativity, and engagement in various aspects of life, like work, relationships, and hobbies. I wish I had known it before my retirement.

Positive Emotional Regulation

Euphoria is a positive emotion regulator, helping to counterbalance negative emotions and improve psychological well-being. Experiencing euphoria can provide a temporary respite from stress, anxiety, and depression, allowing us to experience relief and joy.

Stress Reduction and Relaxation

Euphoria can trigger feel-good biochemicals, which can reduce stress levels and induce relaxation. This may have a positive impact on mental health by alleviating tension, increasing calmness, and improving emotional resilience, which I will touch on in the next heading.

Increased Resilience and Coping Skills

Experiencing euphoria can enhance our ability to cope with challenging situations and adversities. It can serve as a source of emotional strength and resilience, allowing us to navigate difficulties with a more positive and optimistic mindset. After adding euphoria to my lifestyle, I feel more resilient. Small things don’t bother me anymore.

Improved Social Connections

Euphoria can contribute to positive social interactions and relationships. When we experience euphoria, we become more open, friendly, and approachable. These good behaviors can foster deeper connections. Hence, they can enhance social support networks, improving our mental health.

Conclusions

Euphoria is a wonderful feeling for healthy people and brings numerous benefits, as I outlined in the previous part of the story.

Nevertheless, prolonged, excessive, and uncontrollable euphoria might be associated with some mental health conditions, like bipolar disorder or substance abuse.

Thus, we must maintain a balanced emotional state and get professional help if euphoric experiences become disruptive or problematic in our daily lives.

I understand that euphoria is the opposite of anhedonia, which does not happen to me anymore after my joyful years in retirement.
