What You Need To Know About Saturdays.
They can be surprisingly productive. That is if Fridays are handled well.

I previously wrote about Fridays and how we should give ourselves the best chance of success on Mondays. You can read the story here.
A Beautiful And Pleasant Friday Starts From Here.
And you might ask from where it starts.

I thought I should continue my day-to-day series. I decide to do it because there is a flow. Right off the bat, I have no qualms working over the weekends. The question is how can we best optimize our focus and time. And I believe there is something in me that I can share. Not everyone works every Saturday. What if and what happens when we have to?
This is the essence of this story.
The story of a productive Saturday has to start from Friday. This is in a similar vein to analyzing World War II in the Pacific. We cannot start from the Bombing of Pearl Harbour. We have to start from The Treaty of Versailles, The Russo-Japanese War, The Sino-Japanese Wars. Every story has to have a starting point.
Imagine a Good Friday. I meant a brilliant Friday. And that happens to be yesterday. Let’s say we managed to clear all the menial tasks such as expense submission and replying to all internal emails. We also happen to have a great do-lunch session with our prospects and they finally warmed up to us. Having to get the executive team to adopt our initiatives in a Board meeting adds the icing on the cake.
Then we proceed to leave office by 5 pm, heading for a few rounds of drinks with our colleagues, listening to their stories for the week before heading home. I imagine such incidents are pretty few and far in between. We will be tap dancing our way home when it happens. And we collapse into bed to recover from an accumulation of sleep debt.
Then we wake up to a slow morning. The eyes open not because of the wretched alarm clock as it has been over the week. The Sun has shined its rays on us for hours. We get up, fresh, and have a nice breakfast with our family, chatting about everything under the Sun except office and school. It is a rhythmic tempo. 1 bite for every 2 sentences, perhaps?
Fast forward to the afternoon. Our minds would be fresh and we are eager to give it a go. What should we work on a Saturday afternoon? It has to take into account that it is a weekend, so it has to be light, meaningful and serves as a pre-start for the week ahead.
For one, I think we can work on email drafts for the week. Take, for instance, emails to prospects. Prospecting takes time, and we need to reflect on how we can help them achieve their goals. This requires thinking time, and it is time we never get during the week. Now that we are fresh and there is no one hijacking our attention, we should attend to it.
We can work on promoting our business (and work). This might be the time to hop onto social media and circulate Thought Leadership articles or Whitepapers. This might also be the time to look for comments on our posts, to check for interested prospects. A little scrolling here is not about wasting time because it helps us study the new types of content posts that are slowly gaining traction.
There is so much to learn just to be scrolling the post feed. And don’t forget to distribute our Medium stories on social media.
Last but definitely not final — Reflection. Growth comes from reflections. If we write often, then this is the time to go into the Statistics view to analyze how each story performs. We might get insights on how we can improve and the topics we write that others will read.
I also like to use this Saturday reflection time to also think about Sales Objections and how I can overcome on-the-spot when it pops up the next time.
There is definitely more but I will stop here. Note — This is definitely highly individual. I believe in optimizing our work and life experience so there is no need to work over the weekends if we don’t want to. Forcing productivity, for some funny reason, simply destroys it.
For me, reflection time is what I value on Saturdays especially when my mind is clear of mental fogs. I sit to think and I tend to think without imposing constraints. And when I start putting pen to paper, great ideas flow.
And one of those ideas led to this story.
How does a brilliant Saturday look to you?
Well Wishes To Many Upcoming Brilliant Saturdays,
Aldric
