Weekly Wisdom from Karen
My picks of the week for your delectation.
ILLUMINATION founder Dr Mehmet Yildiz recently asked his editors to write regular bulletins. I thought that was a fabulous idea and volunteered to spotlight the, mostly, unsung work of the newest writers here.
The good Dr suggested I call it Weekly Wisdom by Karen. I have heard that wisdom comes with age …
Impressive New Writers & Poets
First up is Caitlin Ju, a random pick from the submission queue. Her poem brought a smile to my lips. Sometimes this world is too good to miss.
Second is Manasi, I read her bio first then Oh to Swim, then followed the link for an intriguing title. I had to know and if you want to know too, you know what to do! Manasi has a lot of wisdom.
My third choice is The Two Positive Slaps in My Face by Radwa Roushdy. For a young woman to admit her behaviour was wrong to the friends (and the world) who called her out on how she was behaving is a big deal. Radwa took the mature option.
Kris Freeman is the fourth new writer this week. Kris very kindly read one of my stories and left a lovely response.
In her story, Can We Derive Pleasure for Ourselves in the Worst of Times, she asks:
“What is Life Teaching me about myself now that I am refusing to know because I am scared of losing control?”
A jolly good question, methinks. I’m delighted to say that Kris and I agree on this completely.
Last on my list of new writers on ILLUMINATION is Erwin Lima. In his own words:
I have become inspired to deep-dive into the connection between what we’re doing in the world of marketing and tech, and how it relates to mental health — and a lot of other societal issues.
A wise man who made me want to think about what I am going to do about the impact of marketing on our marketing health. I realised I’d already become very good at ignoring all the messages that are trying to tempt me to buy buy buy!
These five new writers found my eyeballs by chance, by responding or clapping for my work. I then went to visit them to return the favour.
Thank you:
Erwin for informing and causing me to reflect.
Kris, you and I share the same view on pleasure.
Radwa your maturity impressed me.
Manasi, you are a wise woman.
Caitlin bringing a smile to someone is a wonderful gift, worthy of sharing with the world.
Until next time, Illuminators!
