Hello, lovely writer and reader illuminators! Welcome to another selection from a variety of writers. This week we start with villains, move on to mind movies, then read about a man who wants to get his work out into the world.

A magical realist gifts us the benefit of his wisdom and some superb one-liners!

Our fifth new writer reflects on society and how miserable many of us are.

Our star read this week is from Markus Scorelius. He has some incredible thoughts for our future when he’s not being blamed for other people’s failings.

First up is Nicole Maharaj. Her writing style draws you into her words and fills you with her wisdom. She’s also written two fantasy novels.

Here’s the short form from Dr Mehmet Yildiz that tells you all about the opportunities of adding your chapters to ILLUMINATION Book Chapters. Nicole, I hope you sign up and submit chapters from your books ASAP!

When you think villain, what exactly do you picture? Movies, Television, and Literature all have created different images of what a villain is supposed to look like. Villains are always doing horrible things to good people or doing things for what they perceive as the greater good.

Warren Brown shares his wisdom on the subjects of mind-movies and dynamic visualisation. I see pictures of word meanings in my mind and often visualise the outline of where I want to go with a story. That’s after the headline has popped into existence!

An intriguing article.

Mind movies and the art of dynamic visualization have always intrigued me as I love to watch movies, television series. A few years ago I decided to use mind movies for writing. We know that our inner thoughts are like watching movies on a mental screen. All I needed to do was to use the same technique to write any material I wanted.

Lawson Wallace wants to get his work out to the world. Please join up to post your book chapters on ILLUMINATION Book Chapters, Lawson. Meanwhile, you can post what you’ve already written on Medium. The best way to start is to just do it!

I sat across from my Psychotherapist. I was reading the results of Neuropsychological tests that I endured a few weeks earlier. The process was so stressful, the doctor stopped it halfway through the session.

Will Franks writes the most amazing one-liners! He says he is a magical realist. Magical realism is one of my favourite genres. Real-life with a hint of the impossible or magic.

His words of wisdom should be read by any writer, aspiring to world-weary hacks. I promise his skill as a writer will transform you into an aficionado of your own work.

I can’t wait to read more of his thoughts.

Find the desert and tend it until you have a blossoming garden.

Write that which you will read again and again, which will echo in your mind for days and return to you in dreams and at the most unexpected moments.

Find the hole in your universe and fill it with the flame of your passion and longing.

Angelina Der Arakelian’s essay is full of insight into our current predicaments.

Society has never known isolation as it does today.

She also gives us some great one-line wonders.

We are one of the unhappiest civilizations in the history of humanity.

My two pence worth is; for goodness sake make yourself go outside for a long walk with a friend. Appropriately distanced, of course. Or a solo bike ride. You’ll feel better for it. Promise.

The future is now; said someone once. It’s a phrase we hear as often as we brush our teeth. What happens in the next minute depends on what we do in the present. We’re essentially in charge of how we take our every step, which shows that we pave the path before us even when we’re not aware of it.

Star reads

Markus Scorelius is not to blame for other people’s inability to believe the truth of matters. His examples of family and friends accusing him of events he had no control over will make you either laugh or cry. Maybe both or somewhere in between. I think he makes some excellent points.

All the other lemmings are jumping to their death, what’s your problem?

I am infuriated by the irresponsible people I’ve come into contact with lately. They have quite a capacity for imagination for living in denial, shirking off their own responsibility and placing blame on me. The ability of the human mind to stretch itself in defiance of logic and facts so pathetically weak people can cast off blame is astonishing.

I couldn’t resist including this one. So few understand how their actions or inaction affect the planet for everyone. Restoration of ecosystems is vital to our survival, not more gadgets to guzzle electricity. Markus provides us with a rich selection of ideas for our future.

Our society is wrought with a deep sense of guilt and shame.

As you read this expose’, it will have been 100 years since the double impeachment of Donald Trump, the insurrection of January 6th, 2021, and the installation of Joseph Biden, Jr. as the 46th President of the United States of America.

Thank you for reading lovelies.
