Weekly Wisdom from Karen
ILLUMINATION Edition

Titles are everything for an article. Next, the header image has to be the perfect eye-grabbing and heart-pumping second hook to reel in your readers.
How could anyone scroll past this title from Carel Kolchinski? I don’t think he could have found an image that was stronger.
My grandmother looked at me, one of those piercing looks that made you sit up straight and pull yourself together; if you didn’t, you knew she would throw the wet dishcloth at you.
The kind of politics I write about is not usually very popular on Medium. Chrissie Powers is getting traction for her analysis of infamous UK and US politicians.
I posted a comment on Medium once, outlining bizarre similarities between the political situations in both the US and the UK. Given the tremendous popularity this received, I decided to analyse further parallels between our two heads-of-state, as a final ‘’good-riddance’’ wish to Trump and hope that our own Boris follows him to oblivion soon.
When a new writer finds their niche, I’m always delighted for them. Mr. Smith is no exception. He gives sex a good name.
Let’s start with the obvious. Mr. Smith is a pen name. Under it, I write about sex, but this story isn’t about erotica and whether you agree with it or not. It’s about a journey and growing as a person.
Sean Smith tells us about mean people. His wisdom and tips for dealing with the four different types I’m sure will be welcome to anyone with teenage kids!
Back in the 1980s, when I went to high school, no one “felt safe.” No one was safe. Not students, not teachers, and certainly not a little gay boy transferred to a large suburban high school in the middle of his senior year.
Continuing the subject of children, here’s another article. This time about step-parents. They are not all evil. I had a stepmum and she was lovely most of the time.
Let’s talk about step-parents. Let’s talk about those step-parents who have impacted the lives of their stepchildren positively. Who have stood by, guided and given unconditional love to kids — who are not their own.
Star Read
Michele Thill has been one of my favourite reads for the best part of the last year. She has always inspired me to think and do things better. She as a wonderful way with words and is ultra-quotable!
Her wisdom on so many life matters is sensible, helpful, and a joy to read. I can’t recommend her words highly enough. See for yourself.
Let’s use weight as an example. Here in the United States, many of us live on what is known as the Standard American Diet. What the integrative community refers to as SAD — and it is…
…filled with processed “food” made in a plant instead of coming from a plant. Filled with pesticides, chemicals, sodium, sugar, and so much more.
I particularly enjoyed Michele’s play with words for this article. Brilliant!
Thank you for reading.
