Summary

Regular sexual activity can improve job satisfaction and work engagement.

Abstract

Research suggests that maintaining a healthy sex life can significantly enhance an individual's performance and mood at work. According to a study in the Journal of Management, employees who prioritize sex report increased engagement, satisfaction, and a positive mood that persists for over 24 hours after the sexual activity. This beneficial effect is attributed to the release of mood-enhancing chemicals and hormones in the brain during sex. Conversely, workplace stress can negatively impact one's sex life, leading to a cycle of dissatisfaction at home and work. The research emphasizes the importance of a healthy sex life for overall well-being and productivity.

Do you have a hard time being productive at work? Or do you have low job satisfaction? Before hitting the job boards, research shows you may want to hit the bedroom first.

“Maintaining a healthy relationship that includes a healthy sex life will help employees stay happy and engaged in their work….”

According to a study published in the Journal of Management, couples who make sex a priority find that the day after a good romp, they are more engaged at work, feel more satisfied, and have an overall better mood that lasts more than 24 hours. This is not surprising when you consider that sex is associated with the increase of chemicals and hormones in the brain that elevate our mood.

“We make jokes about people having a ‘spring in their step,’ but it turns out this is actually a real thing and we should pay attention to it,” said researcher Keith Leavitt. “Maintaining a healthy relationship that includes a healthy sex life will help employees stay happy and engaged in their work, which benefits the employees and the organizations they work for.”

While bringing the effects of sex to work with you can make you feel better in the office, the converse doesn’t work out so well. Leavitt’s research also shows that when people bring their workplace stress home with them, it has a negative impact on their sex life that in turn creates a loop of dissatisfaction at home and at work — making good sex even more important for people to prioritize.

“This is a reminder that sex has social, emotional, and physiological benefits, and it’s important to make it a priority,” said Leavitt. “Just make time for it.”
