Summary

W.E. Newman's monthly service highlights a curated list of 7 engaging articles by various Medium writers, offering a mix of humor, music, mystery, culture, poetry, and personal stories.

Abstract

In the inaugural edition of W.E. Newman's monthly service, Newman presents a selection of seven articles that have captivated him over the past week. These articles span a variety of genres and topics, including a humorous dog-sitting tale by Ginger Cook, Lisa Osborne's personal picks for desert island music, and Gerald Washington's heartfelt story of an "Angel Unaware." TzeLin Sam's unexpected mystery, Pam Winter's intriguing insights into Amish culture, Nancy Blackman's reflective poem on love, and Lu Skerdoo's poignant piece about her dog Frosty's medical issues, round out the list. Newman refrains from full reviews to maintain brevity and encourages readers to engage with the articles and their authors directly.

W.E. Newman’s, Writers Picks for June

This is a new monthly service, from me, for our writers.

To begin with, I will list 7-articles I have read over the past week. I will not have time to give a complete review of each article for a couple of reasons:

1) You know what we say, Mr. Algorithm and the writer both would like you to read and comment on their articles.

2) Otherwise, this report would become one of the longest reports I have ever written. None of us want that.

Let the articles begin:

First on the list, and in no certain order, is a great story, a funny story from Ginger Cook. Her article is attached below:

Dog Sitting Sent My Typically Laid-Back Husband Over the Edge. | by Ginger Cook | Apr, 2022 | Medium

If you want to read a funny, feel-good article, read this one first. This story has a “shocking” ending. Great story Ginger Cook.

My Second story on the list is from Lisa Osborne. Her article is attached below:

My 8 Deserted Island Music Picks. Don’t Come Rescue Me! | by Lisa Osborne | Jun, 2022 | Medium

Her article inspired writer Gerald Washington and me, in writing our own articles, on what eight songs we would take to a deserted island. For what it is worth, I am reconsidering a couple of my choices.

My Third choice on this list has to be from Gerald Washington. There is a term called “Angel Unaware.” This is definitely one of those stories. Let’s just say, someone “Witnessed” him and his brother at a young age. This was a heartfelt story, and I encourage you to take a few minutes to read it.

The Jehovah Witnesses Are Coming. Sound the alarm | by Gerald Washington | ILLUMINATION’S MIRROR | Jun, 2022 | Medium

My Fourth choice on my list is no doubt, from one of the best mystery writers I know of, TzeLin Sam. This mystery she wrote was going in one direction, I fell hook, line, and sinker for it. I have to stop here, I cannot give away the ending. Please just let me know what you thought of her ending to this story.

The Missing Doormat. Fiction | This Did Not Happen To Me | by TzeLin Sam | Jun, 2022 | Medium

My Fifth story is a Pam Winter, special. Pam Winter is another great writer, Editor, and Publisher in our community, and she always impresses me in not only her writings but also her topics. Her topics pull me in every time, where I have to read the articles. I am so glad they do. Give this bottom link a try. I believe you will walk away smiling and want to read the next one.

I Want to Be Amish for a Week. I think it will be a retreat for my… | by Pam Winter | ILLUMINATION | May, 2022 | Medium

My Sixth story: This poem is from a Writer, Editor, and Publisher in our community Nancy Blackman. Nancy Blackman has a beautifully crafted poem. The poem asks what is love? It is a great read, I better stop before I say too much, and spoil the poem.

Love is a Many Splendored Thing. Conquers Fear, Hate, and Conjures… | by Nancy Blackman | MIDFORM | Jun, 2022 | Medium

My Seventh story. Remember, I said these articles are not numbered in any certain order. I saved this article for last because I have something special to say to Lu Skerdoo and our community as well. Lu Skerdoo has a beautiful dog name Frosty. By the way, Frosty is my adopted nephew. More on that later.

Frosty is having some medical issues as mentioned in Lu Skerdoo’s article. If you get a chance, it will mean a lot to Lu Skerdoo and Frosty both, to send her a message of encouragement.

PS: On the other hand, (Aside from Frosty), Her article left me laughing. Well worth your time to read this one.

The Mammogram Tech from “H. E. double hockey sticks” | by Lu Skerdoo | Jun, 2022 | Medium

Great week of writing and reading

This has been a great week for hopefully all of us. There are so many great quality articles being written, by some great writers. I am honored to be in your community.

It reminds me of college. The Instructor would give us assignments. Later, I would listen to the students as they read their articles. I was in journalism classes with some of the best writers. I was so impressed with not only what they wrote, but how they wrote their stories and articles.

Medium reminds me of those college days. I write with some of the best writers anywhere, right here in Medium.

Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for the read.
