Visiting Our Silent Friends

Where PupperJack thinks he can catch a squirrel …

The squirrel conspired with its siblings and cousins to appear in front of PupperJack at varying intervals as we ambled around the graveyard. Of course, PupperJack thought it was the same squirrel every time.

They were teasing him …

We have several friends in the graveyard and they always welcome us in silent, but friendly manner.

Geraniums are a favourite for the graves. They are always good value — they just keep flowering and flowering until first frost.

Some of the carvings on the stones look so natural and not at all stone-like.

Above right, this gravestone was covered with ivy — it was in among other graves that were well looked after. I decided in the end that the chap under the ivy must have been a very private person. And that he liked ivy. And that his gravestone is deliberately overgrown.

Blackberries are already ripening in the graveyard.

Look at the colour of those beech leaves (above middle) — amazing — almost black in the sunlight. Under the leaves hide the mast (above right) — inside those prickly cases are the nuts. They’re a great snack for squirrels.

Bye, bye — until the next time.

There’s a squirrel in that tree waving a paw at Pupperjack. He’s got a big grin on his face.
