Once More into my Bay Window a Year after Last Time — Ooh, Look — a PupperJack Flower!

The Clivia miniata, also known as Natal Lily

When in flower, the Clivia is the star of the show. When not in flower, not so much — it’s just a pot of broad, strap-like leaves.

It’s such a reliable plant, though, I know it will brighten my spring every year.

I have followed this particular head of buds in its progress since I first spotted it a couple of weeks ago. Lovely.

Just by the by, I can’t believe I’ve been here — on Medium — for a year! The Bay Window Tours were one of the first things I wrote on here last year.

Anthurium — flamingo flower — such a tough plant!

There are many varieties of Begonia Rex and I have quite a few of them!

They never fail to deliver their myriad-coloured foliage almost whatever I do with them. My perpetual neglect is always forgiven.

You might have gathered by now that any plants that wish to survive under my care have to be tough — orchids are tough, too! I know they look exotic — and they are exotic, but they’re also tough as old rope.

The Crown of Thorns or Euphorbia milii, is a succulent despite being so woody and thorny.

It is native to Madagascar, but was brought to the Middle East more than a couple of thousand years ago.

Its common name comes from the legend that the stem of this plant made up the Crown of Thorns worn by Christ at his crucifixion.

This plant can be seen in shops and plant nurseries grown on a circular framework to resemble a crown-like shape.

The thing to remember about this plant — apart from being wary of the somewhat lethal thorns — is that it is poisonous. Don’t get its sap on yourself.

And this little plant is the PupperJack flower.

He’s not nearly as tolerant of neglect as the others. In fact, any suggestion of not having everything he wants immediately, and Susan is made to feel it.

That’s commonly known as being ‘under the paw’.
