Hyacinths Showing Great Promise

Signs of Christmas — last Christmas …

A neighbour gave me a pot of hyacinths — they look so full of promise. And I know I’ll enjoy the scent when it arrives.

There are still pockets of Christmas around the place. They can stay as long as they like.

I had a quick look in the bay window — they all look cosy despite the awful cold encasing us at the moment, so I’ll leave well alone.

In the meantime, my month is not going as planned — so many distractions and things cropping up to make me swerve off course. So I don’t have as many photos ready as I would usually hope to.

I mentioned this problem to PupperJack. He said: “What are you waiting for?” So here’s PupperJack with a serious face on.

‘It was just him and the snow’ and ‘Just messing about on the slopes’ — paintings by Susan Alison

In the meantime, 16th January is ‘World Snow Day’ and we have doggo (above left) in ‘It was just him and the snow’ — or maybe it’s the ‘Milk Tray Doggo’! (there’s a reference that dates me).

Whatever mysterious mutt he might be, he’s doing his best to ignore his pals over there (above right) who do nothing but arse about on the slopes.

And 18th January is a celebration of Peter Mark Roget’s creation — it is ‘National Thesaurus Day!’ — Yay for the thesaurus! Apparently, Roget started his book in 1848 and finished it in 1852 with 15,000 words.

Its full, original title was “Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases Classified and Arranged so as to Facilitate the Expression of Ideas and Assist in Literary Composition.”

Yay! Woohoo! Hurray! Um … **checks thesaurus** — Whoopee! Egad! Yippee!!!

Oh, Dog — the tax returns …

Dennett started the Photo-a-Day Challenge to help combat the pandemic blues. (To think — this has been going for nearly two years!) She takes photos during the week, chooses the best ones, and adds some narrative.
