Discarded Cyclamen Plants Show Promise of Multitudinous Blooms
The dreaded tax return simmers along sulkily dragging its feet …
I had ordered some of these little cyclamen to give as a Christmas gift but when they arrived they were very sad and couldn’t make themselves look like a present no matter how hard they tried, so I put them outside and got something else to give.
This morning I discovered them sheltering under a big pot outside the front of the house and was delighted to see they’ve perked up considerably with loads more buds getting ready to bloom.

One of the lateral flow tests I had to do last week inexplicably disappeared when the charmingly called, ‘extraction tube’ vanished from my desk. I searched everywhere for it.
I’ve just found it perched in the browns and reds pencils pot. Oh. That’s where it went. (The background picture is of Hong Kong from the Window-Swap app.) Signs of pandemic times.

There was an enormous bee this morning making the most of the early-flowering honeysuckle — it was HUGE. (It’s not a great photo, though — left above.)
Then PupperJack decided that he was interested in the honeysuckle, too, so I had to make sure he didn’t get too interested in the bee as well.
I think they might both be a bit early, Spring-wise …

It is very cold and wet outside. It actually looks more spring-like in the bay window.

‘Snow-Flakes’ by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is such a fab poem — I posted it on Facebook with the first picture, ‘Drifting Silence’ and I posted it in my ‘Anything Creative’ publication on Medium with the second picture, ‘Silent, and Soft, and Snow’, painting.
I can’t decide which picture goes best with that poem.

Not only is January 9th ‘Hot Air Balloon Ascension Day’ but I live in Bristol, South West UK, home of the ‘International Balloon Fiesta’, so there had to be a painting to celebrate ballooning.
In fact, this time I remembered to take photos whilst painting it so I have an article showing my thinking whilst doing so.
I must remember to take pictures more often when I’m painting!

The tax returns still form an ominous background to everything else. There will be celebrations when they’re done!
Dennett started the Photo-a-Day Challenge to help combat the pandemic blues. (To think — this has been going for nearly two years!) She takes photos during the week, chooses the best ones, and adds some narrative.
