Victory Lap

A Fibonacci poem sequel about cat and mouse antics

Photo by Anton Lochov on Unsplash

And so I was fast asleep until suddenly I heard a loud noise from downstairs well before the alarm clock had sounded this morning

A new day but similar not in a good way to how some other days have gone like the set-up for a predictable knock-knock joke

Indeed three mice in three days but I did not find this third visitor any more charming than the other two vagrants that were ousted

In truth too much excitement blood pressure spiking and my eyes darting back and forth trying to make sense of the current situation

They were going around as though competing in an officially sanctioned race or to at least treating this as the qualifier

There was lively two-stepping very clumsily on my part to avoid them both before I’d showered or had my first cup of coffee

Watching them take laps around an obstacle course rather than a proper racetrack incorporating elements of hide-and-seek, too

It was a short time until the victor emerged the cat proudly carrying her trophy but it wasn’t a black-and-white checkered flag

This is a follow-up poem to Catch & Release.
