Urgent Notice: Beware of Fake Accounts Impersonating Influential Writers

Awareness of the increasing number of cybersecurity risks on Medium

Dear Writers and Readers,

We’ve encountered a pressing issue: fake accounts replicating the profiles of esteemed writers impersonating them by mirroring their photos and profile names.

Our chief editor, Dr Mehmet Yildiz, has been a repeated target of this unsettling practice. Today, these fake accounts struck again, infiltrating his recent story on Medium Friendship and inundating reader comments with phishing emails.

Your vigilance is crucial. If you spot such dubious comments on any story, please report the account immediately.

Please keep in mind that Dr Yildiz or any of our writers will never ask readers to call them on WhatsApp or Telegram.

How to Identify Them?

These fraudulent accounts typically lack followers and haven’t authored any stories themselves. They are non-members with no star or heart icons in their profile names.

Dr Yildiz wrote a story about it informing us.

They recently did the same thing to another editor Aiden (Illumination Gaming). He also wrote two stories about his experience.

Stay alert and proactive in safeguarding our community against these deceptive accounts. Your swift action in reporting suspicious activity helps fortify the integrity and security of our platform.

When you see such accounts you may click on the 3 dots and choose report this author option.

Also beware of fake subscribers.
