Update 2.0 for Cyberpunk 2077 Looks Like It’s Gonna Be Huge
You might even wanna start a new game to see all the changes.

In a bunch of my earlier posts, I’ve chatted about all sorts of stuff about Cyberpunk 2077. You can find the links to those down below.
But for now, let’s dive into this post where I’m gonna talk about Cyberpunk 2077 and spill the beans on what’s cookin’ in the upcoming 2.0 update. So, hang tight!
What is Cyberpunk 2077?
Alright, so imagine this wild mix of futuristic tech, gritty urban landscapes, and a whole lot of rebellious attitude — that’s Cyberpunk 2077 in a nutshell. It’s a video game that throws you headfirst into a world that blends the coolest and the darkest elements of sci-fi and noir genres.
Think towering skyscrapers that scrape the heavens, but they’re not gleaming paradises. Nah, they’re covered in neon lights, flickering holograms, and advertising that’s as in-your-face as a punk rocker’s mohawk.
The streets are a chaotic swirl of people from all walks of life, from high-tech hackers to cybernetically enhanced mercenaries. It’s the future, alright, but it ain’t all sunshine and rainbows.
You step into the shoes of a character named V — a customizable protagonist who’s basically a mercenary hustling for survival in the gritty, tech-obsessed Night City. This place is like a character on its own, with different districts oozing their own unique vibes.
There’s the opulent City Center where the corporate bigwigs chill, the gang-infested Pacifica with its faded glam, and the maze-like markets of Watson, echoing with foreign tongues and neon lights.
And get this, everyone’s packing some serious cyberware — that’s like augmented body parts on steroids. Do you want mechanical arms that let you punch through walls? You got it. Fancy eyes that scan for threats? Sure thing.
In this world, upgrading your body is as normal as scrolling through social media. But with all these enhancements, comes the question of your own humanity. Are you still you when most of your body is metal and circuits?
The story kicks off when V lands a gig that goes haywire, getting them entangled in a deadly game of power and betrayal. It’s like a rollercoaster of morally gray choices, where your decisions shape the course of the game and its various endings.
Along the way, you meet a cast of characters that range from badasses to straight-up bizarre. Johnny Silverhand, played by none other than Keanu Reeves, is a digital ghost from the past stuck in your head, adding a whole new layer of complexity to your journey.
But hold onto your brain implants, it’s not all roses. Cyberpunk 2077 got its fair share of controversies at launch — bugs, performance issues, you name it. The hype train had derailed a bit, but CD Projekt Red, the game’s developer, worked hard to patch things up. And hey, in the world of Cyberpunk, glitches could be seen as just a part of the digital charm, right?
So there you have it, Cyberpunk 2077 is like stepping into an alternate future where the high-tech clashes with the lowlife, and your choices can shape not just your story, but the entire city’s fate. It’s not just a game, it’s an experience — glitches and all. Welcome to Night City, pal.
What’s coming in update 2.0?
Guess what’s dropping next month? Yep, Cyberpunk 2077 is releasing its first and only expansion! But wait, there’s an even bigger treat on the horizon — the whopping “Update 2.0” that’s tagging along. CD Projekt Red has been teasing us with glimpses of their tinkering with the game’s innards, like the skill trees, armor systems, and police AI overhaul.
They started this chatter back during the Summer Game Fest, but it was during the recent Opening Night Live stream that they pulled back the curtain on Update 2.0 and showcased the upcoming goodies in the Phantom Liberty expansion.
Okay, let’s talk about big changes. The skill trees in Cyberpunk 2077 are getting a makeover like you wouldn’t believe. No more puny percentage upgrades, my friends. They’re dishing out fresh perks that align with different playstyles.
In the teaser, we caught sight of a skill that deflects bullets for katanas, brand-new executions for melee weapons, an air dash, a muscle-powered move that lets you casually toss bodies around, and an oh-so-cool revolver skill that’s basically Cassidy’s Deadeye ultimate move.
But hold your horses, the fun’s not over. These spanking new perks, ready to spice up your vanilla Cyberpunk experience, are only the appetizers. Phantom Liberty owners get their own exclusive tree of “Relic” abilities.
Imagine this: an upgrade for Mantis Blades that lets you pounce on foes like a Left 4 Dead Hunter, or imagine your Gorilla Arms morphing into gravity hammers for those satisfying punches.
Now, if you’ve been teetering on the edge about starting a fresh Cyberpunk 2077 adventure before the Phantom Liberty shindig drops, let me push you right off that fence. I’m totally sold on this idea. While existing characters can tap into the new perk trees, the perks are distinct enough that you’d probably prefer the gradual unlock experience.
And oh, the mission makeovers! Update 2.0 brings in car combat — not just one kind, but a whole buffet. V can now blaze away with guns while cruising, pull off some Watch Dogs-style hacks to turn other cars into chaos, and brace yourself — some cars are loaded with guns themselves (though that could be a Phantom Liberty exclusive).
And no more laughable police AI, they’ve souped it up. Cops now give chase, set up roadblocks, and yes, they’re even trying to ram V off the road. No more teleporting cop tricks for CDPR!
But hold onto your seat, ’cause the Phantom Liberty expansion is where the real party’s at. You’ll be able to dive into the Phantom Liberty content around the midsection of the main story.
Don’t go racing too far past that point, because CDPR promises a treasure trove of “new clothing items, weapons, cyberware, and more” in Dogtown — a fresh district they’ve added to Night City’s somewhat neglected Pacifica region.
I got a taste of Dogtown during Summer Game Fest and man, am I hyped. This expansion feels like its own standalone saga, kind of like The Witcher 3’s Blood and Wine.
Final Words
Put it all together, and you’ve got Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty blasting onto the scene come September 26th.
Get ready to immerse yourself in a world of revamped skills, explosive car combat, and a riveting expansion that promises to give Night City a shot in the arm it sorely needs.
