So, in some of my past articles, I’ve talked about a bunch of cool single-player games. You can find the links to those games at the bottom of this post. But right now, I wanna chat about Cyberpunk 2077 and how it had a super rough beginning but managed to turn things around and become a really awesome game with a “Very Positive” review on Steam.

What happened with the Launch of Cyberpunk 2077?

So, let’s talk about the wild ride that was the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. Buckle up, my friend, because it was a bumpy road full of glitches, controversy, and disappointment.

When the game was first announced, hype levels went through the roof. Everyone was ready to dive into the futuristic world of Night City and experience the next level of gaming. But oh boy, things didn’t exactly go as planned.

The initial release date was set for April 2020, but CD Projekt Red, the developers, pushed it back a couple of times. Gamers were patient, hoping for a polished and bug-free experience. Finally, December 10, 2020, came around, and Cyberpunk 2077 hit the shelves. But alas, the game wasn’t quite ready for prime time.

Players quickly discovered a myriad of bugs and performance issues. NPCs walking through walls, cars spawning out of thin air, and numerous visual glitches were just the tip of the iceberg. The game struggled to run smoothly, even on high-end gaming rigs, and the console versions, especially on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, were a complete disaster.

The backlash was swift and fierce. People took to social media, creating a storm of memes and complaints. CD Projekt Red’s stock plummeted, and fans demanded refunds left and right. Sony even went as far as pulling the game from its PlayStation Store, a move unheard of in the gaming industry.

CD Projekt Red knew they had to act fast to salvage their reputation. They issued an apology and promised to fix the game’s issues with multiple patches and updates. The developers faced an uphill battle as they worked around the clock to address the major problems and make the game playable for everyone.

To their credit, CD Projekt Red did release several patches that gradually improved the game’s performance and fixed a significant number of bugs. However, the damage was already done, and the game had lost a considerable amount of its initial charm and allure.

Despite the rough launch, there were still some redeeming qualities to Cyberpunk 2077. The game’s story and characters were praised for their depth and engaging narratives. Night City itself was a visually stunning and immersive environment, capturing the essence of a dystopian future.

Over time, with continued updates and patches, Cyberpunk 2077 slowly started to regain some of its lost credibility. CD Projekt Red showed their commitment to the game and the players by offering free DLCs and major content updates, aiming to deliver the experience they had promised from the start.

“Very Positive” reviews on Steam?

Cyberpunk 2077 reviews on Steam have finally hit the “Very Positive” mark after almost three years since its bumpy launch. It’s been quite a journey, but the game has come a long way!

The CD Projekt community director, Marcin Momot, went on Twitter to share the exciting news after players noticed the achievement. He said:

“Cyberpunk 2077 Steam reviews are now sitting at ‘Very Positive’ with 80% of all scores being favourable.

Thank you all for acknowledging all the hard work the team has put in over the years since the release!”

Some players are absolutely loving the game and sharing their experiences with its current state. Recent reviews have been more positive, though not without some constructive criticism.

Although Cyberpunk 2077 has a very rocky launch, things have turned around since then. CD Projekt Red has been working hard to support the game, and it’s paying off.

Final Words

Additionally, Cyberpunk 2077 is getting its one and only expansion this year called Phantom Liberty, set to launch on September 26 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The DLC is said to be a massive overhaul that will transform the original Cyberpunk 2077 experience. Exciting stuff!
