Red Dead Redemption Could Finally Be Getting a Remaster
There are some rumors that Rockstar could be working on a remaster for the first Red Dead Redemption game.
So, in my earlier posts, I talked about a bunch of games, including some by Rockstar. You can find the links to those stories at the end of this post.
But today, I wanna chat about Red Dead Redemption and the juicy rumors going around about a remaster that might be dropping real soon. Exciting stuff, right?
What is Red Dead Redemption?
Ah, Red Dead Redemption! Now that’s a game that’ll make you feel like a true gunslingin’, horse-ridin’, Wild West outlaw. It’s an open-world action-adventure game that takes you back to the days of the American frontier, where the law was loose and the land was wild.
Picture this: you step into the dusty boots of a rugged cowboy named John Marston. He’s a former outlaw who’s been given a chance at redemption (hence the title) by the government.
They’ve captured his family and are holding them hostage until he takes down his former gang members. It’s a classic tale of a man trying to leave his past behind and do right by his loved ones.
The game throws you into a sprawling landscape known as the American West. From dusty desert towns to lush forests and snow-capped mountains, the attention to detail is downright breathtaking. The developers put so much love into creating this immersive world that it’s almost like stepping into a time machine.
You’re free to explore this vast frontier, whether on horseback or foot. You’ll encounter all sorts of characters along the way, from grizzled old prospectors to saloon owners with secrets to share.
The dialogue is sharp and witty, and the voice acting is top-notch. You’ll find yourself drawn into conversations and side missions that’ll make you feel like a true part of the Old West.
Of course, it wouldn’t be the Wild West without some good old-fashioned shootouts. The gunplay in Red Dead Redemption is as satisfying as it gets. You can take cover behind barrels, dive through windows, and unleash a hail of bullets on your enemies.
And let’s not forget the iconic Dead Eye ability that slows down time, allowing you to pull off some seriously epic shots.
But it’s not all about the gunslinging. You’ll also need to take care of your horse, hunt for food, and even engage in a little old-fashioned gambling. The attention to detail in the game is astounding. You’ll see the sun rise and set, witness realistic weather effects, and watch as the world around you reacts to your actions.
A Red Dead Redemption remaster?
It looks like the long-awaited remaster of Red Dead Redemption might finally be happening soon!
There’s this new regulatory filing that popped up, suggesting that it’s on the horizon. And get this, it’s been less than a year since the game became unplayable on the PS4 and PS5 after being taken off the PS Now streaming service.
Red Dead Redemption, released back in May 2010, is considered one of the best games of the seventh console generation. It never made its way to the PS4 or Xbox One, but it was available on PS Now for about six years until late 2022.
So, the Xbox Series X/S was the only modern system where you could still play it, thanks to its backward compatibility. But with so many fans still playing the original Red Dead Redemption Online and the limited options to play the game, people have been begging for a proper remaster.
Well, it seems like those pleas might actually be answered soon. Just recently, the South Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC) classified Red Dead Redemption on June 27.
Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar, applied for the rating on June 15, and the GRAC decided to keep the game’s original adult classification from 2010. The rating doesn’t specify which console the game is for, but hey, that doesn’t mean a PC port is out of the question.
Let’s take Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — Definitive Edition as an example. The GRAC gave it a rating on September 30, 2021, just days before Rockstar officially announced the remaster bundle. Then, boom, it hit the market on November 11.
But that release didn’t go so smoothly. Rockstar had to apologize because it got slammed by players and critics alike. So, while that might make some fans skeptical about a Red Dead Redemption remaster, this new rating suggests it’s still happening.
Final Words
In Take-Two’s latest financial report, they revealed that the Red Dead Redemption games have sold a whopping 75 million copies as of March 31.
Red Dead Redemption 2 alone contributed to more than two-thirds of that number, selling an additional 3 million units in the first three months of 2023.
With such impressive sales, it’s pretty clear that there’s still a huge interest in the franchise.
So, a potential remaster of Red Dead Redemption shouldn’t have any trouble finding an eager audience.
