Publications reject many writers every day. Some get rejected for a reason, while some get rejected without any reason. But still, it’s the publication’s choice to accept or reject your story. You can’t do anything with it, but you can decrease your rejection chances.

Yes, you can decrease your rejection chances by applying different methods. So today, I am gonna show you some methods to decrease your chances of rejection.

Let’s start;

Read their terms and conditions

Every publication on Medium has a terms and conditions page, where they have explained all their do’s and dont’s. You must read all the terms and conditions before submitting your story to a publication.

When you read their do’s and dont’s, you will have an idea about their like and dislike. And you could easily predict if a story is good for a publication or not.

Sometimes your prediction will be wrong, and you will face rejection. But most of the time, your prediction will be correct, and you will avoid rejection.

Read tips from publications

Some publications have many stories on their homepage to help you get into the publication easily. These stories include many different tips like how to write perfect titles, how to break a paragraph, how to improve your grammar, etc.

You should always visit and read these tips before trying writing for them because these tips will not only help you write your story according to their choice. But will also help you predict about whether your story is of their type or not.

And if you don’t get anything, you will learn some new tips to improve your writing and grow on Medium easily.

Make some minor changes

Most of the writers don’t write for a specific publication. They decide these things after they complete writing their story. And it’s an obvious thing that your story will not match every publication.

So what should you do? — Don’t worry, I will explain it to you.

First of all, read the publication’s terms and conditions. And after that, make some minor changes following their terms and conditions. and try to make it as good as possible.

Read other stories from the publication

This is one of my favorite things to do if you wanna get accepted into a publication. All you have to do is read other people’s stories in the publication, and try finding out what their stories have that your story doesn’t have.

Reading other people’s stories in the publication can help you get accepted into the publication easily and quickly. Because you will easily find out what’s lacking in your story and what you should do.

You must read at least three stories from a publication if you wanna get accepted there. When you read three stories a day, you will learn everything in just a week because it makes up a total of 21 stories a week, which is a great number to learn something.

There are so many ways you can avoid rejections but these are the ones that I knew. You can find some more useful tips from some other writers on Medium or somewhere else.

You can also try my method of submitting stories to big publications without being demotivated.
